I said, 'Yes, I have a dog'.

She said 'Do you want to insure your dog?'.

I replied, 'no, he doesn't drive'.

When he signed for us in 2001 there was a series of Pot Noodle ads on telly featuring an (imaginary) huge black guy called Big Dave, the idea being that if you eat a cheeky supersize Pot Noodle all to yourself you should "blame it on Big Dave". Came from that, because of the general resemblance.
