And another injury. Plenty of excuses now if we don't win it. Smartass

Well there have been some surprising results in the last few days. The USA failing to finish off the Dutch. Brazil on the edge of elimination. Olympic champions Canada past the edge of elimination and gone. The Germans getting beat by Colombia. And the Spanish humiliated by Japan, even though they had already qualified.

Let's hope that the Lionesses don't get on the wrong end of an upset tomorrow against the Chinese. They've won both matches so far, but only by a single goal. They look far from the team that swept aside opponents in the early stages of the Euros last year. Is that down to key members of the team being out injured? Is it that the rest of the world are catching on to women's international football and catching up? There are definitely better teams here than at the Euros.

Anyway, just a point needed to top the group and it's Nigeria waiting in the next round.

Just seen the highlights of today's game. Superb stuff from the team and Lauren James in particular.

The Chinese weren't much cop, particularly the keeper, but that's not our problem, is it.

Not impressed with some of the refereeing. Or rather, the VAR refereeing. Lauren scored a brilliant hat trick, but was denied it because her second goal was disallowed. Lucy Bronze was walking back, but in an offside position when the ball is played. She doesn't touch the ball or is anywhere near it. The ball is knocked around and eventually comes to Lucy, who is now well onside and she lays the ball off to Lauren, who smashes it home into the top bins. Great goal.

But then the VAR chalks it off because of that walking back offside from Lucy Bronze.

Quote:Being in an offside position is not an offence in itself, but a player so positioned when the ball is played by a teammate can be judged guilty of an offside offence if they receive the ball or will otherwise become "involved in active play", will "interfere with an opponent", or will "gain an advantage" by being in that position.

The law needs changing. She wasn't in active play when the ball was played. Technically, yes. But we're getting goals chalked off that would never have been deemed offside before. It was a great goal and shit like this ruins the game.

And also the penalty against Lucy Bronze. Clearly moving her arm away behind her back when the ball hits her arm. Rolleyes

And just to add on to that. Some of the decisions given to England by VAR in the game against Haiti were stupid as well. This isn't an "it's not fair" rant. I just think VAR stinks and I wish it would just go away. But it won't, will it. Blush

In other news. How close were the USA away from getting knocked out by Portugal? The width of a post. That's how close. Blush

Well a lot of the Yanks over here don’t like the US team anyway so would have happily seen them go out. They have never liked them since the protested during the national anthem and their stance on LGBT rights. Mainly the Trump cult but still a sizable minority.

The Brazilian women looked awesome in the opening win against Panama. Fantastic, flamboyant, proper Brazilian football.

But a couple of games later, they're out. Betaen by France and then today failing to get the win against the Reggae Girlz.

Up Town Top Ranking!

Germany walloped the Moroccans in their opening game. But now Morocco are through and the Germans are out.

Funny old game. Some big favourites are out. England must fancy this now.

England must certainly fancy their chances of making the semis!! All the other favourites are in the other half of the draw.
