Those overseas ballots are from both military and expats. Military votes obviously lean Republican, but expats lean Democrat, so depending on the ratio - and on how disillusioned servicemen may be with POTUS - it needn't be a problem in Georgia. Definitely close, but largely irrelevant as Pennsylvania has been an obvious Biden win for at least 48 hours now.

There is no guarantee that today's military will vote Trump, for starters he hasn't been complimentary to them but also lets remember that there is a high proportion of minorities in the military and in Georgia they come from the same counties that are seeing large Biden margins. Republican voters cite the economy as their main priority whereas Dems cite racial injustice first closely followed by the coronavirus, that is producing a different dynamic in cities in particular.

To be fair, one of the most widely circulated stats of the last couple of days is that Trump has increased his support among minorities of every stripe (plus women), but lost support among white men because they perceive him as racist. As we saw with the anti-socialist Cuban/Venezuelan vote in Florida, minority no longer equals Democrat in all circumstances anymore.

I do fully expect there to be a drift away from him in the military, though. Even chickenhawks like Dubya managed to posture about supporting the brave troops. Trump doesn't even talk the talk, let alone walk the walk.

I suppose I was trying to be PC with the term minorities!! Georgia is overwhelmingly African American when it comes to minorities, those military votes will likely come from the counties around Atlanta so will be heavily skewed towards African American.

This election will force the Dems in particular to not lump all Hispanics into the same group. The Spanish speaking population in Florida is very different from the one in California and this election has shown the effect that can have in counties like Miami-Dade, which still stayed blue but with a much reduced margin. Minorities still vote Democrat in huge numbers, where they have been successful this year appears to be actually getting them to vote (or in some cases like Georgia, enabling them to vote). Black males between 18-24 are still one of the lowest turnout groups in the population, it will be interesting to see the breakdowns in this election, especially with voter turnout significantly up on both sides.

The Dems are also going to have to look at the fact that 70m Americans still turned out and voted for Trump, if they can only just win an election with a pandemic, a shot economy and the most polarising and divisive President in history all in play then they have to consider that they need to do a much better job of getting their message across. Of course the incumbent always has a bigger voice and gets more airtime, especially one that is happy to lie continually and spout crap constantly, but the Dems need to figure out how to refute a man like Trump in a way that appeals to voters.

They haven't "only just" won it though. When the dice settle on the table, this will be as comfortable a win for Biden in the electoral college as Trump's 2016 win was, and with the popular vote to back it up; it's just taken more time to count the votes because the pandemic has forced so many postal ballots. To have achieved this against a one-term incumbent, with the ruling party only four years into government... I mean, in modern history it's second only to Reagan's 1980 landslide. And Reagan wasn't facing opponents who denied objective reality.

Obviously Trumpanzees will be a problem for America going forward. But as I said on the previous page of this thread, for at least four years they'll be the Republican Party's problem. The establishment Reps are currently disowning Trump and all his works, and a huge chunk of the GOP faithful despise them for it. It'll be like ferrets in a sack, and no more than they deserve for indulging this tinfoil-hat crankery in the first place.

I accept the nature of the win he will have but the 306 EC votes will be sealed by less than 100k votes in the states that will ultimately make a difference. The biggest problem he will have is the lack of a blue wave in the Senate nor the House. This means he is likely to have to work with Moscow Mitch and we have seen before how he can dig his heels in. One shining light is Georgia, a win in a Deep South state but more importantly two run off elections for the Senate that if the Dems can win them will see them take control of the Senate through the VP being the tie breaker. If they don’t win both of those races then it going to o be difficult for Biden to get anything progressive through the Senate.

I am also not sure the Trumpanzees will be going anywhere soon, them getting 70m votes vindicates a lot of what they believe in, it will be up to the Republican Party to deal with that but will that be the GOP of Lyndsey Graham or Mitt Romney? If its the former then they will hang around and be just as loud for the next 4 years.

A week ago I would have been confident that Trump had a big plans for life after the White House,maybe as some kind of tv evangelist surfing the MAGA wave but as this week has run on its shown there’s no plan beyond just winging itt.

This is why he’s currently camped out in the White House with Rudy G trying to desperately come up with an idea,ANYTHING..... whilst his staff all try to avoid eye contact with him.

It is actually a pity that Biden can't remove Trump from the White House earlier than 20 Jan 2021 because I'm sure that he and Obama et al want to do it for the good of the country during a pandemic!! Allegheny and Armstrong counties have finally put Biden above the mandatory recount margin in Pennsylvania, which means that the state is officially blue, and that puts him above 270. CNN, NBC and BBC have all officially called the result. Joe Biden will be the 46th President.
