I really don't understand why people are so surprised, by our transfers so far, when have we ever pushed the boat out and invested in trying to improve the team to one able to compete week in week out in the Premiership? Its been nearly 50 years since we had a team capable of playing that standard (in the old Div 1).
If anything I would say this window has already been one of the best for some years, but while you have a situation where some individual players, cost the same as our entire squad, the FFP regulations are bordering on corrupt and our young up and coming stars can be stolen for a few thousand (which sometimes we do not even get) what do you expect. I know many consider the Premiers League to be the best league in the world, which it may be, but it is also the most boring and predictable league. I would bet, if we all got to chose four teams, three of which had to finish in the top 6 in the Prem, we could, where is the interest in that. Look at every other league in England and there is nowhere near the quality differential between the clubs.

I’d have said 40 years, Salopbaggie; that team of the late 70’s, early 80’s was magnificent

You are quite right and that was the team I was thinking of, I did say its been 'nearly' 50 years. I was lucky enough not to miss a game home or away from 78 -81. That is why I am so excited about the potential of this team as I am starting to see a similar type of team, just need a Cyrille/Bomber, a Wiley and maybe a Statham. We have the flair players already.

As well as the 78 side, I also saw the 66 to 71 sides they were pretty good and Astle was the King. So I’m one of the lucky ones to us in a final at Wembley , but also watched some of the dross played by teams under Saunders, Gould, little and more recently Pulis and Pardew. This present side certainly has got potential, with the right addition’s could do well.
Back to transfer news being reported in Portugal that Krovinovic has signed an extended 1 year deal to give him 2 years at Benfica. He is on his way to Albion on a season long loan with no to buy clause. They have done this to get over the impasse, we did not want to commit to buying him at the price that Benfica want especially if we were to be relegated. So they have extended his contract to protect his buyout price next year.

Some great long term fans on this board; I'm the same vintage but have never lived in the W Mids, so have only rarely gone to games.
What I referred to in a recent post was the reason why I started supporting the Baggies - it was the mentality of "you score 2 and we'll score 3" that got me hooked!
Here I am, many years later, excited by the view of you folk who can see the flair and potential of the current squad.
I'm 100% behind SB in the way he wants us to play the game, even after losing 2 out of 2 in the PL so far.
We'll never win the league but as long as we play football in 'the right way', I'll be happy. Yes, even if we go down.
(But I'm sure we won't!)

Wow i'm impressed - I'm lucky always been a black country lad. Although I'm the only one in the family who is a true baggie.
My daughter is a fan, but not a supporter - my lad is a Sheff Wed supporter for his crimes.
This squad can go either way IMO - it's a discipline and confidence issue to overcome atm.
Great you score 2 and we will get 3 policy.

I’m 53 now and was also a regular watching those teams. The best teams we ever had During my time. First went up in 1971 when I was 4.
God blesse my old man. He’s still as passionate as ever at 85

My Ex relocated to Yorkshire, he played footie for local boys clubs and managed to get trials at SW but like many others
didn't make the cut. STH for several years, he always gives me grief for moaning about the baggies. He reminds me SW is a far bigger club
and never gets a good owner. he lives in Selby now and has a young lad of his own now who is more into F1 then football.
He is a member on sportsbabble but just looks in from time to time.
