It has now been confirmed that the Baggies will re-sign Gareth Barry once he returns to full fitness.

The 38-year-old provides invaluable experience to the squad, and is a natural leader and motivator in the dressing room.

I’m ok with this. Yes he’s 38 but his experience is invaluable and will go a long way with our younger players that we now have in the squad. He also offers us experienced cover behind Sawyers, Livermore, Harper and Brunt.

With Slaven playing 4231, Barry might only play 10 matches this season because it’s 2 out of 4 currently in the middle, and 2 out of 5 once Barry signs, but it’ll be worth it in my opinion because all it takes is 1 injury to Livermore or Sawyers and we’re stuck.

If all goes well, Field will have a good season with Charlton and will return next summer to replace Brunt in the squad, with Brunt becoming the player that Barry will be this season and Barry becoming part of the coaching staff.

Big thanks to Mozza for all you gave. Come back we would love you to coach the kids and we have a couple of vacancies.

Did not notice this come up anywhere else, but according to the Matt Wilson podcast Stoke came in at the last minute with a permanent offer for Sam Field, the Charlton deal had already been agreed by that stage. @ 20:20 https://soundcloud.com/baggies-broadcast...adline-day

Well here we go. 55 years of supporting The Albion and once again I start the season in an amazingly positive frame of mind.

A good transfer window and one of the most impressive managers I have seen at the club.

Could this be the start of something big or will The Albion curse strike again.

Austin to get 20 this season (injury nightmare but just a faded memory) attacking midfielders and a strong defence to protect a goalkeeper who fluctuates from bad to good.

Why not Sign him up?. His wage demands are not going to be High. On his day he is a handfull. We have many wingers to provide service to him. He can hold up the ball well. No brainer IMHO.

Wilfried Bony’s wages could be an issue. His wages have been at a high level, even at Swansea, and it’s been extortionate given the lack of return that Swansea got from him in the past 2 seasons. 27 appearances in 2 seasons and then 7 on loan in Qatar in the second half of last season where his wages probably didn’t change.

On his day he is a beast of a striker but we’d have to get him back up and running, keep him motivated and injury free and most importantly get his wages down to a reasonable level for us so we don’t end in the same situation as Swansea if it wouldn’t work out.

I’ll give him credit for keeping himself fit with Newport but it’d be a no from me overall. We already have Charlie Austin, who has had injury problems with Southampton, and we don’t need to take another risk on another striker who has had problems.

Josh, i see where you are coming from but how about a 6 month contract -- just like BD did with Wes Hoolahan?. This "manages the risk".

Question:

The transfer window is now closed - but can the club still do business e.g. Loans, Free Agents.

The European market is still open and so they could buy from English clubs - but what about the reverse - all very weird

I wouldn’t be against a contract until the beginning of January with an extension until the end of the season if he plays a certain amount of matches.

Only if he was happy to lower his wages though.
