Halford's lane? West Brom run the rule over free agent Greg Halford. Versatile defender played 45 minutes for the U23s yesterday on his 34th birthday #wba  https://t.co/ioadZbkFGd

Why are we constantly buying/signing players in their thirties instead of early twenties at the same time as releasing our quality academy graduates who then go on to blossom and succeed at our rivals ...... build for the future, a squad should be 70% players in their twenties, 20% players in late twenties early thirties and 10% youth 18- 20 year olds. Experience, youthful exuberance and steadily improving / maturing quality players. Keep signing oldies they will keep needing to be replaced ....... stairs, how many players do we have that our approaching, at or past the end of the road and need to replaced within two years .......

Last season's disappointment was an ideal time to sweep clean and build foundations, we're still building on ground of sand.

good news.....its a NO to old Greg.

OK - Seasons Greetings one and all.

I have been a bit tardy with this thread of late due to extreme pressures of work - but the Window is soon to be upon us and so here we go....

I have seen very little rumour around this window other than an expectation that we will do very little trade. That is not a bad mindset to have as it's less painful that way and a pleasant surprise should we buy anyone.

If I am missing any real link e.g. point me to the article that I can attach to, then please let me know - otherwise -let's start tracking things and fingers crossed

One thing to consider is our bench is already stronger by a long way then any of our rivals.
Most of our bench would walk into the first eleven elsewhere.
I would expect our recruitment team to throw us one hidden gem and us to sign one quality player - few fringe players to be loaned out.

Our bench is going to have to be stronger after Jenkins has stated "the Baggies have a finite budget and that owner Guochuan Lai will not be pumping any more money into the club."

Is that code for, "I will wait until the end of the season to see if they are going to get promoted, then if they don't I'll cash in what I can and sell the club".

We need him to find some pennies down the back of the sofa next month - squad is far too stretched now.

But Jenkins has told fans the Baggies have a finite budget and that owner Guochuan Lai will not be pumping any more money into the club.

He said: "January gives clubs the opportunity to re-engage the transfer market and we shall be doing everything we can, within out budget, to continue to take the club forward.

"However, I urge our supporters not to be sucked in by some of the media hyperbole that is now a regular companion of this period.

"The club's owner Guochuan Lai wants us to continue to operate Albion in the manner he set out at the beginning of his tenure.

"He seeks a well-run and self-sustaining club geared to returning to the Premier League as quickly as possible.

Retained who ? They have all had their wages slashed in half ..
Forget the parachute money we had a net spend of -12.5 million in the summer or does that not count ?
I'm sick of the same shit being spouted by Albions top men
As soon as Jenkin's came back most of us guessed this would happen I suppose.
I hope they realise you reap what you sow Sad

I don't see any problem with Jenkin's comments. Every budget is "finite" (unless you live in Jeremy Corbyn's fantasy land) and Lai has always said that we will be run as a sustainable club, just as we have been over the last 15 years. We almost certainly won't be making a profit this year, and I suspect that by the end of January, our transfer net spend over the season will be close to zero.

But as matt Wilson at the express and star says lai brought the club and has put not one penny into the club unlike Villa who areally going to spend 6 million on a keeper and who were supposed to being bankroupt in the summer and being done for ffp
Wolves owners pump money in they did it in the championship now look at them ..
Net spend in the summer was -12.5 million, comes out with lines like we had to keep our squad together they all had 50% pay cuts, we still owe for last year's transfers yep well Mr Jenkins clubs still owe us money eg 2 million for James Chester at the villa so every club is in the same boat as us yet we have parachute payments
I'll reserve right to criticise after January towards Jenkins and with the words of JP still ringing in my ears
I will only sell to a owner who will take the club forward and Mr Jenkins words of we have a sizeable transfer budget in the summer, a -12 million pound summer later ....
LIARS the lot of em and they will still say we have made a loss come what May or even May

It’s of little consolation to West Brom fans as their club is facing relegation, but the club’s holding company have just published their financial results for 2016/17 revealing record profits. A few months later though it was the night of the long knives in the boardroom and the club’s boardroom big cheeses were shown the door.

2016/17 figures have just been announced
Almost made 30 million record profits BEFORE transfer sales yet they keep banging the drum about spending 40 million the season after ...
