31 Aug, 2021 Transfer Window: Championship Rebuild
With reference to the comments about - we can buy now Rondon has been sold. This indicates all incoming funds - parachute payments, transfer fees and season ticket sales has been put aside. Our transfer budget from the Rondon sale would be about £5.5m (1st of 3 payments) with £2m on Zahore and £1/2m on Semi that leaves £3m or 2 players at £4-5m each. Don't expect anymore. We will then be back to loans. All conjecture but food for thought.

West Brom are planning to make a £5 million bid for Amiens striker Moussa Konate.

The 26 year old Senegal international scored seven goals in 21 Ligue 1 starts last season.

A bit of a relief to see a few new faces this weekend, but there's still several positions where we are very short.

Right back is a key area as we will probably need 2 if Nyom goes. Last year we had Holgate, Dawson and Adaraboiyo who could cover there, but not sure we will have a single senior player who can operate there if Nyom is on his way out.

I wonder if a Holgate return is on the cards if Everton sign a right back? I'm guessing he will go out on loan again but they are just waiting to sign someone first. It would make sense for him to come back as he was a first team regular here.

In addition to right back, another centre half, winger and forward are a must IMO.

He played in defensive midfield from January onwards so we’ll see whether SB will play him there or in his natural centre back role.

Ajayi came off the bench against Scunthorpe and went into the centre of defence. Harper and Brunt came on in midfield in place of Livermore and Field.

I know it’s only 1 match but I think he’ll probably be used in the centre of defence given that it’s his natural position with his ability to play in midfield an added bonus.

Konaté is more of a finisher than what we currently have. He’s 6 foot tall, stocky, good in the air and has good movement so is able to get into good positions.

He scored 14 goals in 34 matches in 17/18 and 14 goals in 37 matches in 16/17 so he has a steady goal record and those were in Ligue 1 and the Swiss Super League. He should be prolific at Championship level.

Good post I agree with nearly all you say Slick.

I too would like Holgate back, thought he was class last year at this level, but it looks like we are going for Darnell Furlong, good championship experience at a young age.

A Conor Townsend type as back up is also needed, unless we are looking to Nathan Ferguson to come through, who seems highly thought of, but only about 18 years old I think.

Semi Ajayi can also play right back, so I think we will get one or the other of another right back or centre half, as Dara O'shea is looking like he may be 4th choice CB.

Definitely need another forward and Moussa Konote seems to be the link at present.

Winger linked seems to be Mattheus Pereira.

I think SB will then go with that through to the 3rd August, with one more being added in the last minute scramble on deadline day, based on how the friendlies go and the first game against Forest, wherever we then look short.

That leaves money in the Bank to strengthen again in January.

Remember from how far back Villa came from to get the play off place, so if we are in a play off spot in Jan, a good run through to the end of the season puts you in a promotion place.

I just want to add I really like the age of the players we have been linked to, all at the right age to improve and all a good height. (Real positive move)

Plus most links seem to be to buy players and not loans (Dowling intimated we would be taking on loans at the end of last season). May be Jenkins has told him to change his thoughts. Another right decision in my opinion.

I am starting to look forward to the upcoming season. I think Ajayi is going to prove to be a steal, and Krovinovic looks a box of tricks.

Not wishing to put a dampener on the signings. All are of the right age with potential to increase in value. But none of them are anything more then that. Let's keep our feet on the ground and see how Bilic can make them into a team. They are cheap buys for a reason. But let's enjoy the optimism. COYB.

Sporting Clube de Portugal (Lisbon) want a £9 million fee obligation written into the loan deal for Matheus Pereira. That means whether we go up or go down, whether he performs well or not, we’ll have the pay it.

If true then I don’t think it’s worth it. Like I said last week, he’s a good talent but he lacks final quality on the ball and has a habit of play-acting.

Lots of grumbling going on in the background, none of our new signings are better then the guys who have left apparently? I'm not so sure, the only facts are the previous guys got relegated and were not good enough to get promoted. So they're gone (almost) and the rebuilding is underway. Younger, hungrier, fitter players with a new experienced manager is what we have. COYB.

We also still want Holgate back according to Matt Wilson.
