It is up to Sam to bring in the right calibre of player to fight , Deeney would be a good start. Along with a left back as Gibbs is to fragile and a midfield enforcer.

We have to be careful we do not do our normal trick with strikers when in the Prem. We have this habit of playing most of our games in our own half and then blaming the striker for not scoring. Even when the striker gets the ball he is so far from goal with no support it makes them look far worse than they are. As an example look at Rondon, went on loan to Newcastle and was popping in 1 in 3, in China he is hitting 1 in 2. On top of that, I do not want to see us keep signing geriatrics, Deeney was a decent player in his day but at 33 next birthday where is the future planning, we crisis manage all the time so every season we need to replace half the team? Deeney is not hitting 1 in three in the Championship, for me the only thing Deeney has going for him is we could probably afford him, which is usually not a good thing either.

Time to retire the dross. Have a fire sale and get rid. Promote the kids. Can`t do any worse. Start building for promotion push next year.

I agree re Deeney, not what we need, as someone said too old, and past his best. Only positives are we can probably afford him, and he is probably available.  Linked with mamadou Sakho today, he was a beast when he joined Palace, and supposedly not playing cos him and Hodgson fell out. Just what we need, someone with experience, who can boss the defence.

Better than Tomkins in my eyes. Sounds like a perfect fit. Gets my vote.

I respect all your opinions but for me Deeney fits the bill of what we miss up front, big strong ever gets bullied leads the line well, better than other names mentioned Niase, Carroll,Tuson and our own Kanu. I would be up for an 18 month deal his experience would be a big help to both Grant and Robinson. Sakho would be a good call but would Palace release him to a competitor. But most of all we need a midfield dynamo who can get around the pitch someone like Schaner who was great for us. There is rumours circulating that Johnston could be sold to Leeds I really hope this does not happen, but if it does who could we replace him with Ryan from Brighton looks like he’s available would be unsure on that one. We will soon know.

Well lets hope that rumour is not true as it would show the defeatism we are looking at our situation with. The last thing you do is sell your better players to one of your biggest rivals at the time. More worrying though are the rumours about selling Pereira to fund any purchases (not seen from any 'reputable sources as yet). Though if you are not going to play him might as well sell him I suppose. Doh

Don't watch a lot of SPL as it's generally a dour spectacle but I have watched Celtic in Europe and he's more of a box to box midfielder from what I remember. He's someone who the play tends go through, who does a bit of everything, rather than being specifically focused on either attack or defence individually. In terms of his role in the team, it would be similar to what Sawyers played for us last season. He's obviously more mobile and combatative than Sawyers though and does chip in with the odd goal.

From what I recall, he was linked with some big money moves not so long ago, so it's a strange link considering we probably have no cash. But I think he's lost his way at Celtic this season, so maybe he's available on the cheap. If he's one of their top earners and rarely playing, they might just want rid.

Alternatively, I read a couple of weeks ago that Celtic were linked with Edwards and Harper, so maybe some sort of swap deal is on the cards. This could suit both parties if Ntcham has lost his way at Celtic, because I don't really see Edwards and Harper making the grade for us either. But for the occasional moment of genius from Edwards, they were only really squad players at Championship level. Could be better squad players in the SPL though.
