Let’s consider the question of introducing a separate referee. The
point is this isn’t a game; this is a multinational, very high value,
business involving millions of people with vested interests in its
continuance as a money making megastructure. The days of it being
in existence for “the fans” or “fairplay” are as dated as Biggles. They
will not change anything that threatens the income stream, profit
margins, tv revenues that now are so important they can arrange for
governments to defer to their demands. We don’t watch a football
game now with any sense of inclusion; we watch with a sense of
dread fascination at how long this thing can grow before it either
collapses inward or actually takes over the whole world.
So, no, we will never have a separate referee.
