The world's press converging on Darvel to cover a good "feelgood" story and no wonder when one considers all the negative, depressing news going around such as eg lotsa tanks and other military kit being transported to Ukraine before a predicted Russian spring offensive in a war that sadly rumbles on n on n on......Sad

Amazingly ICT could still go through after it transpired that Queen's Park fielded an ineligible player. Watch this space.

"Scottish Championship leaders Queen's Park earned a Scottish Cup win at Inverness Caledonian Thistle - but their last-16 place is in doubt after they fielded an ineligible player.
Euan Henderson joined on loan from Hearts after the tie was postponed on 21 January, but Scottish FA rules state that only those registered before the initial date are permitted to play.
It remains unclear what the punishment might be but it could render this victory, earned with goals by Dom Thomas and Scott Williamson, moot.
Queen's Park thought they had set up a tie at Livingston but it may be that the top-flight side will welcome Inverness Caledonian Thistle instead next weekend."

Rangers, Ayr United, Celtic, Hearts, Kilmarnock, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Raith Rovers and Darvel or Falkirk, in the QF draw.

One of Ayr, Raith, ICT, Darvel and Falkirk could realistically make the Final, if the draw comes out in a certain way. Or a repeat of the 2015 Final. Big Grin

And it comes to pass that the quarter-final draw is: Rangers v Raith Rovers, Hearts v Celtic, Darvel or Falkirk v Ayr United and ICT v Kilmarnock

So Rangers get the benefit of a home game v Ian Murray's Raith Rovers' team, Hearts draw their "nemesis" and, without doubt, will face an onslaught of serious Celtic attacking play (based on their previous thrashing at home by Rangers with very little to offer in return! Perhaps Hun VAR will create more controversy to somehow see them through it eh!!! Rolleyes ). Ayr United will surely "fancy their chances" to reach a semi-final and a resurrected ICT v Killie could well go all the way - hard to call this one!

Fifth Round Results so far

Friday 10 February
Hamilton Academical 0 v 2 Hearts

Saturday 11 February
Ayr United 4 v 1 Elgin City
Dundee United 0 v 1 Kilmarnock
Livingston 0 v 3 Inverness CT
Raith Rovers 3 v 1 Motherwell
Celtic 5 v 1 St Mirren

Sunday 12 February
Rangers 3 v 2 Partick Thistle

There were two minor shocks with Championship sides Inverness CT and Raith Rovers beating Livingston and Motherwell. Partick Thistle did their best to add to the shocks, taking Rangers to the 86th minute before succumbing.

The Quarter-final Draw was made yesterday and the games are due to be played over the weekend of 11 March
Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Kilmarnock
Heart of Midlothian v Celtic
Rangers v Raith Rovers
Darvel or Falkirk v Ayr United

Darvel once again have the chance to continue their great run right into the Semi-finals, but they will find Falkirk a different proposition to Aberdeen. Falkirk have just as much to gain and will know they can't be lax against a team well below them in the leagues. Everyone will be well aware of Darvel's attributes and will have to fight fire with fire to progress.

No doubt Viaplay will show the Celtic and Rangers' ties with the BBC picking up the scraps which will see two unfancied teams getting into the Semi-finals.

Darvel's magnificent Cup run has come to an end tonight after a 1-5 defeat by Falkirk. Darvel were second best for most of the night and with the sending off reducing them to 10 men at 1-2 down, it was all Falkirk in the last 15 minutes.

A "step too far", but a piece of Scottish Cup history still attained by Darvel all the same.
