While we ponder and debate over Grant even the Seals are securing proven PL players.
We need to raise our sights and stop looking at the bottom of the barrel.

I think they will be mid table this year with their acquisitions. As much as it pains me to say it.

Scraped up last year through dodgy VAR handball call vs Palace and the ghost goal vs Sheffield United. But they did learn how to fight at the end of the season and have added quality.

That said, a bottomless pit of cash helps.

Grant is young and hungry and with Robinson who is also young and hungry we could have decent competition. Kanu will stay as our Hold up player if we are winning with 20 mins to go. We have bought in Ivanovic to add experience to Livermore, Kanu and Bartley. As we are bringing the age fo the Squad down I believe it will just be Grant and a Right back on Loan. With Austin, Grosiki, Hegazi sold and Zohore Harper and Soule going out on loan.

I think short term solutions can be good as they might keep you up, get you another year of Prem money and help you evolve.

That said, what I'd prefer about a Slimani type over Grant isn't so much his experience, its that he's different to what we already have. I feel we need a striker with physical presence, someone who can put their head on the end of a corner or free kick, a plan B. Someone to throw on when we're chasing a game.

Basically an Austin replacement. Someone with similar qualities who is actually mobile.

That's not to say Grant isn't a good option, or even better option, individually. It's just he is very similar to what we already. He also scored most of his goals last season from midfield.

I think we need 2 anyway, as Austin and Zohore will (hopefully) go. If both Grant and a Slimani 'type' came in, it would give us a variety of options. Grant coming in could also free up one of the wingers for transfer - Phillips perhaps - as both Grant and Robinson can cover wide midfield. I suspect we will see a flurry of activity on deadline day, will bring in Grant and another, and see both strikers and 1 or 2 wingers move on.

I'm struggling to share the opinion that anyone will want to buy the strikers we don't want to keep.

I think we are living in hope rather than expectation....

That said, I think Austin scored enough goals in the Championship to be in demand at that level. It's just a matter of if teams can pay his wages...

I might be thick or stupid or both but with likes of Austin Grosiki and Hegazi why could there be a problem with wages. Yes agreed there probably on big money now we’re a Premiership side ,, but there Millionaires wether the next club they go to offer them 10,000 per wk or less should not matter. They don’t need the money they could live comfortably for the rest of there lives now without moving. If they want to continue to play and not sit out there contract they will all go to a decent championship side. { abroad in Hegarzi’s case } I cannot for one minute see Austin, who loves playing or Grosicki and Hegazi who want to keep playing for there countries turning down offers. The difficult one is Zohore, still young on high wages to get him out we will have to subsidise his wages. Just my thoughts for me I would want to play.

"Bottom of the barrel"??
A bit harsh BB, when we're looking at bringing in a £15-18 MILLION striker? Huh Sick

I'm in a similar boat to you, If I was a pro, I'd rather play and get paid a lower salary. Especially, as you suggest, it's not going to be a poorper salary in the Championship.

But from knowing someone who works in the game, I've realised some professionals can be different. Some still want to play, but there are plenty who are just taking the money. Either because they have fell out of love with the game, don't like football and are merely mercenaries or have pressure from WAGs to just earn as much as they can. Let's face it, the typical footballers wife is just there for the cash.

So I think it depends on individuals. Hopefully ours are the type who still love the game and will encourage a move.

That has to be paper talk, if he signed he would just be another Peltier and we're already out of the League Cup!

This is from Nixon
Nixon: 'Making a major final bid to do Karlan Grant from Huddersfield. Odd structure to deal but may work. Other foreign options on hold. ' Like DFS, we pay nothing for two years! [/font]

Points to either Grant signing by the weekend or we switch elsewhere, which infers we're only going to sign one striker.

By reports we’re going all out for Grant this week no idea of the structure of the deal everything else on hold.

Of course wages would be a problem. If your earning £100K a week you buy bigger houses - super cars - holiday homes.
They don't live in the same world as a normal person. We all live to our means.
Remember this is a job for them and they have a limited time to maximise their earnings.
Imagine if your weekly wage was cut in half, are you saying in you had £1/2 million in the bank you like to take a pay cut - NO NO NO .
