Well it was fun whilst it lasted, a half decent performance by a much changed North End side, (9 in all) against what was a fairly strong Wolves side. Molyneux is a decent stadium with one end now a safe standing zone, well populated last night with over 21000 with ticket prices very reasonably affordable. The M6 was it's usual lovely self on the way back and through in the M55 was closed as well meant return home after 1am.
Shamefully pirate vendors were selling half and half scarves, seriously for asecond round Leage Cup tie.
On the field we were run mostly ragged in the first half, with Olosunde having a torrid time as Wolves exploited the space behid him, given the lack of game time it was a tough night for him.
Cornell making his debut behind the sticks made a TV save within 70 seconds from Jiminez but was beaten seven minuts later as Semedo got in acres of space down the left hand side, ball across the face of the goal, easy for Jiminez.
We did attack but we lacked the speed and precision of Wolves passing. It was soon two and in fairness there was little we could do to stop this goal, a one two in the area led to Traore scoring an absolute screamer.
Would have settled for being two down at half time and we were given a lifeline on the stroke of half time when Olosunde brought down a home player in the box, went down easily but penalty given Jiminez shoukd have taken it gave ball to Hwang who promptly duffed it, Cornell saved easily.
After the break we upped our tempo Browne had replaced Olosunde and we looked more of a threat down the right, and duly scored after winning the ball down the right flank Woodburn firing low past Sarkic who possibly should have done better.
Game on Wolves had their chances didn't take them denied once by an excellent Cornell save and wayward Wolves shooting.
On the hour Wolves made a triple change with two ofthem being Neves and Neto who is reported to be leaving for 50 million, they were gwetting a bit twitchy trying to kill the game off but we refused to budge.
We were always gong to get one more real chance, ball across the face of the goal, Potts sliding in past the back post just couldn't direct it on goal, hit the side netting. Game management from Wolves in the added time Cornell making another good save right at the death.
Useful experience only regret we should played in the first period like we did in the second, but they had a bit of class about them. Star man for them George Berry lookalike Ait-Nouri thought he was excellent
Cornell had a good debut aso impressed again with young substitute Slater.

Wolves boss Bruno Lage:

"I was so happy with Raul, the way he has been this season and in pre-season. We have missed him in the first three games.

"With him we have a reference up front. Raul took a decision to give the penalty to Hwang, it was a generous action and I understand but I don't agree. Raul should have taken the penalty.

"It was a good performance. When you come to these games, in the cup, they come with extra motivation and in the last five games, Preston have not conceded.

"To continue in the competition was the most important thing."

Preston boss Ryan Lowe:

"I'm very proud. The second half we were well worthy of the goal. We changed it in the second half.

"I'm really pleased with the way they took on instructions and had the belief to compete with them. They had over £150million of talent on the pitch.

"We had big chances, we took one, and we need to keep working and doing the right things.

"It's a massive step in the right direction, they showed us massive respect with the team they picked."
