You cannot beat the excitement of a League Cup tie first round in August, luckily enough the first couple of rounds are on a regional basis which is perhaps as well, in the days of a free draw we ended up at Torquay in a first round game as you do, won it 3-1.
Our recent record in Cup games is that we tend not to lose them, we have won every game at Deepdale whilst drawn the two games at the then Leeds Road although we did lose the penalty shoot out in the Autoglass when keeper Tepi Moilanen's kick hit the post and rebounded 60 yards up the pitch towards the other end.
We have had a slightly better start than Town although they have scored which is something we can only dream about

Preston North End will look to progress to the second round of the Carabao Cup for the 14th time in the past 15 seasons when they face fellow Championship side Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.
In The Dressing Room
Ryan Lowe confirmed in his pre-match interview that players who haven’t played many minutes so far this season could get their chance in this cup tie.
He also said that youngsters Dana Amaral, Jacob Slater, Lewis Leigh and Mikey O’Neill would all be involved in the matchday squad.
Bambo Diaby will miss out through injury, as will Sean Maguire, while Ched Evans serves the second match of his three-game suspension.

Following their Play-Off final defeat last season, there’s been lots of change at Huddersfield Town, with the departure of their head coach and some key players.
Carlos Corberán stepped away from the job at the beginning of July, while Harry Toffolo and Lewis O’Brien moved on to join newly-promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest.
Club legend Danny Schofield has stepped up to become head coach and he’s looking for his first competitive victory in charge, having been beaten by Burnley and Birmingham City in the opening two games of the campaign.

Ross Joyce has become well familiar with refereeing PNE’s first round cup fixtures over the years, having taken charge of North End’s Carabao Cup round one games for the past two seasons now.
Mansfield Town have been the opponents on both of those occasions, while the only other time he’s taken charge of a PNE game was the 6-0 victory over Barnet in the first round of the FA Cup.
He has refereed one game so far this season, Bristol Rovers’ 4-0 demolition of Burton Albion last weekend.

On a hot Yorkshire evening North End put in a more than decent performance to move to the next round of the League Cup seeing off Champioship rivals Huddersfield. They scored four could have had six, the performance gives Mr Fantastic choices to make in regard to the side at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.
Both sides made about haf a dozen changes from the last tie they played and those in yellow looked a more cohesive unit than their opponents.
One up in five minutes, nice build up with Fernandez involved as he was with everything in the first half, Ledson shot parried by Nicholls, should he have done better, possiby, rebound put away by Parrott.
Next came the games outstanding moment, another ball in from the left, Potts' volley was as good as it gets only thing wrong it hit the bar and bounced away to safety. A brief period of Huddersfield pressure came to nothing, before we doubled our lead, again a nice build up Fernandez across the face of the goal, McCann with the finish. Same combination ten minutes later and it's three. This was enough for some Town fans who headed towards the exit.
Only downside Fernandez injured on the stroke of half time. We were not as fluent in the second half although Woodburn was unlucky hitting the underside of the bar, didn't matter within a couple of minutes Potts had intercepted a pass, got to the edge of the box before firing in number four.

Town improved after a few substitutions, to be fair they could hardly get worse, and he scores when he wants evaided the offside trap and ran 30 plus yards to slide the ball past Woodman, in fairness to Rhodes he rarely misses chances like that.
Thomas forced Woodman into a save and they forced a series of late corners which came to nothing, but after that bit of pressure North End regained control na dbrought on Lewis and Slater to make first team debuts.
LOWE'S VIEW
Ryan Lowe could not praise his players enough after their dominant display against Huddersfield Town secured a 4-1 win and progress into the Carabao Cup second round.
The manager admitted his players had done everything that had been asked of them as they stormed into a 3-0 half-time lead, with Troy Parrott’s first goal for the club quickly followed by an Ali McCann brace, before Brad Potts extended the lead soon after the break.
While Jordan Rhodes netted a consolation for the hosts to deny Freddie Woodman a third clean sheet in a row, there was no containing the manager’s satisfaction at the final whistle.
“I’m massively pleased. The lads who have come in and the lads who have probably missed out on the start of the season and not playing, sometimes it can kick you in the teeth, can’t it? We said to them to go out there and be professional.
“I thought they were all fantastic today, every single one of them – top drawer. And then to finish the game with two young kids on the pitch was more pleasing.
“I thought the performance overall was fantastic. The passing through the lines, our shape was fantastic, I thought everything we asked for they’ve done, in the first half especially. The second half, the game is more or less done. To keep going and find the back of the net again was very pleasing.
“Overall, pleased with everything about it, the game plan they stuck to and as I said to the lads, every time they follow the game plan, nine times out of ten we win games of football.”
Alvaro Fernandez made a memorable first start for the club by registering assist for both of Ali McCann’s efforts, before being substituted at the break as a precaution.
He continued: “We knew him and Robbie down that left-hand side are going to challenge each other right the way through the season, they give you two different things, but we always felt this was going to be Alvaro’s night tonight to unleash him.
“He was fantastic, his balls into the box. I think at one point he looked a little bit shattered because he hasn’t played much game time. He’s fine, he rolled his ankle a little bit, it’s more precaution, we waited till half-time and assessed him, he’ll be absolutely fine.
“He might be a little bit stiff tomorrow but he’ll be okay Thursday Friday. Really pleased with his performance, along with everyone else’s to be honest with you, I thought they were fantastic.”
Ben Woodburn was also making his first start for the club and, like Brad Potts earlier in the contest, was denied a goal by the woodwork as the Lilywhites put on an impressive attacking display that could have yielded even more goals.
“That’s the type of football we want to play. Pottsy’s, wow! That volley, I thought it was in. It hit the stanchion, come out, and then Ben Woodburn – we could have had six goals there tonight, easily.
“I’m pleased with the patterns of play, how they work, how we want them to work, where we want them to get down the sides of, and put balls in the box. We’ve got to be on the end of them to score them and we certainly did tonight.”
With Woodburn and Fernandez among the six changes from the weekend’s stalemate against Hull City, the boss admitted he had a selection headache in store ahead of Saturday’s trip to Luton Town, but he was all the more pleased for it, particularly in front of a magnificent travelling contingent of 1,100 PNE supporters.
“They were loud and proud as well, brilliant. We keep saying we’ve got to entertain them and I think they’ll go home very entertained tonight. Really pleased with them, the support’s immense, I’ve said that all along, I can’t thank them enough.
“There’s going to be more of them and there are going to be long journeys and more journeys but if we keep performing the way we can we know we’ll send them home happy.”
OPPOSITION VIEW
Huddersfield Town Head Coach Danny Schofield was honest in his assessment after his side were defeated at home by Preston North End.
“It was a tough evening” Schofield said.
“Again, I don’t think we started the game very well.
“We came up against a very good opponent, but it’s a performance that’s hard to evaluate right now, but we weren’t at it tonight.
Having fallen behind in the first half of their last three matches, the Head Coach insisted that it’s something already being addressed on the training pitch.
“We address this with the players consistently, about starting with good intent, starting with good body language, starting on the front foot, trying to be aggressive in the way we want to play.
“It’s a difficult one to really put your finger on, but there’s work going in to try and remedy these things.
“Players and coaches will always go through tough periods in their careers, that’s the business we’re in.
“It’s very important to stick together in these moments, try and find out where the problems lie, try and address these problems and work on it relentlessly every single day, then move on quickly.”
Despite full debuts for several young players and new signings, Schofield was in no mood to try and pick any positives from the night.
“It’s very difficult to highlight any positives.
“There might’ve been certain moments, but when the performance and the result is like that, it’s very difficult to hang on to anything.
“It hurts. It’s disappointing and it’s very emotional. Not just for myself, but for the rest of the staff and the players.
“We want to try and create that togetherness and that feeling that we’re all as one, and I think we have that. There’s a really good group of people here.
“It’s tough, it’s difficult and it hurts, but we need to keep working hard moving forward and try to get performances on the pitch.”

MANAGER
Born in Setúbal, Lage started his coaching career in the youth ranks of hometown club Vitória de Setúbal in 1997.[2][3]
Lage coached every youth team of Benfica from 2004 to 2012 and later worked as an assistant coach to Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City.[4][5] Lage returned to Benfica as manager of their reserve team in July 2018 to replace Hélder Cristóvão.[1]
Benfica
During Benfica's 2018–19 season, Lage took charge of the club's first-team as caretaker manager, replacing Rui Vitória on 3 January 2019.[6][7] He managed his first Primeira Liga game in a 4–2 home win over Rio Ave on 6 January and was appointed permanent head coach eight days later.[8][9]
On 10 February, after winning two consecutive Lisbon derbies – including a 4–2 away win in the league [10][11] – he led Benfica to the biggest Primeira Liga margin of victory since 1964 and to the league's highest scoring win since 1965, a 10–0 thrashing of Nacional,[12][13][14] setting the record for the biggest win at the new Estádio da Luz.[15] In his UEFA Europa League debut, Benfica won in Turkey for the first time in their history, beating Galatasaray 2–1 in the first leg of the round of 32.[16][17]
As Benfica won 2–1 away in The Classic on 2 March 2019, Lage equalled Rui Vitória's 3 wins out of 16 matches against rivals Sporting and Porto.[18] From matchday 16 to 34, Lage went on winning 18 league matches and drawing 1 to conquer his first major trophy, Benfica's 37th league title. With a 94% winning percentage, he surpassed Jimmy Hagan's record at Benfica and achieved Primeira Liga's all-time best second round: 49 points. In addition, he equalled Sven-Göran Eriksson's 1990–91 feat of beating Porto, Sporting, and Braga away in the same season. Lage also equalled Benfica's league scoring record of 103 goals in 1963–64.[19]
Lage then started a second season at Benfica with a 5–0 win over Sporting CP in the Super Cup.[20] On 17 September, he made his UEFA Champions League debut in a 2–1 home defeat to German side RB Leipzig, increasing Benfica's losses in the competition to 11 in the latest 14 matches.[21]
On 29 June 2020, Lage made his position available after equalising Benfica's worst ever series of results – 2 wins in 13 matches in the 2000–01 season[22][23] – and establishing a record of 5 consecutive matches without a win at Estádio da Luz, which included defeats to Braga and Santa Clara.[24] He was replaced by his assistant coach Nélson Veríssimo on 30 June and had his contract terminated on 4 July that year.[25][26]
Wolverhampton Wanderers
In June 2021, Lage was lined up to succeed compatriot Nuno Espírito Santo at Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers. He required a hearing for a work permit as he did not qualify automatically to work in Britain post-Brexit.[27] The hearing was successful[28] and, on 9 June, he was confirmed as the club's new head coach.[29][30]
On 14 August 2021, Lage lost 1–0 away to Leicester City on his debut.[31] He achieved his first win ten days later, a 4–0 victory at Nottingham Forest in the second round of the 2021–22 EFL Cup.[32] He got his first league win at the fourth attempt, a 2–0 win against Watford at Vicarage Road on 11 September.[33] Lage's first win at Molineux came in his fourth such Premier League game of the season, a 2–1 success against Newcastle United on 2 October, both Wolves strikes coming from Hwang Hee-chan.[34]

Brian Pendleton (13 April 1944 – 16 May 2001) was a British guitarist, and a founder member of the 1960s pop group Pretty Things.[1]
Early life
Born in Wolverhampton, England, Pendleton moved south as a child, attending Dartford Grammar School.[1] After school, he started work in the same field as his father as a trainee insurance clerk, before responding to an advertisement placed in Melody Maker by Dick Taylor and Phil May of the Pretty Things, seeking a guitarist.[1]
Musical career
As rhythm guitarist for Pretty Things, Pendleton featured on their first two albums, The Pretty Things and Get the Picture?, and the period of the band's greatest commercial success, when they enjoyed hits such as "Rosalyn" and "Don't Bring Me Down" (1964) and "Honey I Need" (1965). Brian played the memorable slide guitar on "Rosalyn", and the Pretty Things sound of the period owes a great deal to his driving rhythm guitar playing.[citation needed] In December 1966, exhausted by life on the road, Pendleton quit the band suddenly while en route to a concert in Leeds,[1] and left the music industry.
Later life and death
Pendleton became an insurance underwriter and followed this career for over 20 years, working for Sun Alliance Insurance and later the Prudential.[1] On 25 May 2001 he was found dead by the door of his flat in Maidstone, Kent; he had been suffering from lung cancer. He was survived by two sons.[1]

Wolves are looking for their first victory of the campaign after picking up one point from their opening three top flight fixtures, having lost away to Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur, and drawing at home to Fulham.
Given they’re a Premier League side, Wolves enter the competition at this stage, so it is unclear what kind of a side head coach Bruno Lage will put out.

One To Watch
Raúl Jiménez has only ever played once in this competition for Wolves – often left out to prioritise league action – but this fixture could be used for the striker to get valuable minutes into his legs.
The Mexican international made his return from a knee injury off the bench in the weekend’s defeat to Spurs, and he’ll be hoping he can replicate some of his previous form during the current season.
Jiménez had an electric opening two years in English football, netting 13 Premier League goals in 2018/19, before following that up with 17 the next term, however he only managed six last season after his return from a serious head injury.

Thomas Bramall will referee his fifth game of the season in this cup tie and his fourth ever PNE fixture.
Bramall took charge of the first round match between Oxford United and Swansea City, as well as three Championship games so far this term.
He has shown 15 yellow cards and one red in those games, and on Tuesday he’ll be assisted by James Mainwaring and Wade Smith, while Leigh Doughty will be fourth official.
The big question is, will this thread make it to the next round, probably not but stranger thngs have happened, decent test against what probably won't be a first choice Wolves side although suspect it will be strong enough in League Cup terms.
Last tme at their gaff lost 3-2 against Nuno, was a bit spikey on the pitch and at the station afterwards, a more genteel occasion tomorrow
