Summer Bargain

Gateshead were put on the market by their owners three weeks before the end of the season. Four parties are believed currently to be in talks with the club.

All but two players' contracts are up. Four have already jumped ship including Russ Penn, Wes York and Jordan Burrow (formerly of Chesterfield) who are all off to York.

Richard and Julie Bennett are adamant they will not continue to fund the club beyond the end of June after three years in charge.

Though Gateshead are debt free and on the market for just £1, the National League AGM and the deadline for the submission of budgets to the league management committee both occur in June too.

Worst case scenarios are that without a buyer the club could go into liquidation or opt for voluntary relegation, but the owners remain confident that a sale will go through.
