Oh heck! Elise Christie crashed again in the final. Sad

Elise Christie was really unlucky there. She had her hand on the ice for balance and it was nudged away by the boot of the Dutch skater coming through on the inside. I'm certain the judges saw what happened but classified the contact as accidental. Christie is a battler and once she gets rid of all the emotional negativity over the next day or so, she'll be up again for the 1500m on Saturday.

The first curling Mixed Doubles Gold Medals were won by Canada - Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris - beating Switzerland - Jenny Perret and Martin Rios in a one-sided final. Husband and wife Anastasia Bryzgalova and Aleksandr Krushelnitckii competing as Olympic Athletes from Russia beat Norway to claim the bronze medal.

The Men's and Women's competition gets under way early tomorrow morning with the GB Men starting their campaign at 5 minutes past midnight against Switzerland, followed by a game against Canada at 5 minutes past 11 - de rigeur lunchtime viewing there, for me at least. The GB Women take on OAR at 5 minutes past 5 in the morning. The Men probably are getting rid of their 2 toughest opponents early on in the competition, whereas the Women should be confident of a good start BUT take nothing for granted.

Feel the love. Take it now because it won't last long.

As Snooty says, the GB curlers should be pleased with their opening games. The Men beat Switzerland 6-5 after an extra end, but were beaten by Canada 4-6 at the last end. They held onto Canada's coat-tails and had a couple of decent chances to really rattle them, with a few poor shots spoiling their chances. Tomorrow they play Japan, who beat a very experienced Norway team today.

The Women had a much more comfortable time against OAR, winning by 10-3 after only 7 ends. Tomorrow they play USA and China and must be favourites for 2 wins. But it's a slippery game, so total concentration and commitment is required for both teams.

In other sports, our sliders are looking good in their practice runs, although it's all down to the real thing over the next 2 days. I always understood a slider was an ice cream with 2 wafers (like a sandwich), but you live and learn. One good thing about the practice runs is that some of the other athletes are complaining about our good form, casting aspersions on the reasons for it. Of course we will ignore their comments, but it's gratifying that we've managed to unsettle them before the competition even begins. Thumb up

At the Short Track Speed Skating, Farrell Treacy qualified for Saturday's 1500m quarter-finals.

Re the luge. Why would you want to come down a track, on your back, on a sledge, straining your neck to see where you're going? Even more bizarre, why would you want to do it with a partner?

And do it in a skin tight rubber suit??? Its certainly the most "intimate" event at the Olympics!!!

I can actually understand the downhill tea tray better! The luge has always looked maniacal to me!

The GB Women lost to USA by 4-7 in a game that they never looked like having any control or consistency. In a shabby performance, Eve Muirhead was forced into a desperate game in the last end to lose 2 shots despite having last stone. In another lacklustre performance against China, the GB Women again struggled all game, eventually winning after an extra end. Even the normally reliable Lauren Gray was very ordinary. As a slight consolation, pre-tournament favourites Canada have already lost 2 games, leaving GB in 3rd place at the moment. Tomorrow is a welcome day of rest for GB, their next games being against Denmark and Korea on Saturday.

For the Men, GB again won by 6-5 with another last stone draw by Kyle Smith, this time against Japan, to also lie in 3rd place. The Men are battling through each game, always in the game and definitely playing as a cohesive team. They have 1 game tomorrow lunchtime against Sweden, who are 2nd. The biggest surprise in the Men's event is the poor form of Norway - probably because of their fondness for garish trousers!

In the Men's Skeleton, GB's Dom Parsons is currently in 4th place, only 0.03 seconds behind 3rd place. He finishes the event early tomorrow morning with Heat 3 at 00.30hrs and Heat 4 at 02.15. Heats 1 and 2 in the Women's Event are at 11.20 and 12.30, with Lizzy Yarnold and Laura Deas showing great form in the Practice Runs.

The Men's 15km Free event in the Cross Country Skiing features Andrew Musgrave, Andrew Young and Callum Smith and Zoe Gillings-Brier features in the Ladies' Snowboard Cross for GB. Alex Tilley and Charlie Guest are the GB entrants in the re-scheduled Ladies' Slalom.
