Quiz of the Year- 2024
#1
I would start off by putting the rules in, but I'm making it up as I go along, all I can say is that there will be different categories, Huddersfield Town, football, Sport, Music, TV & Film and a General one. All will be relevant to the year we have just had, probably google-able but I am trusting you unruly bunch to try and answer from your own nogging before turning to the dark side.

Have fun!

You thought I listed them in order of how I was going to go? maybe you're right. The first category is Huddersfield Town, lets see how well you have been paying attention this year, it has been rather hectic and very much the sort of year where you can quickly switch off.

Question number one, nice and easy, goes like this,

1) Which player scored Towns first goal of 2024?

2) Who was the first player to see red this year, and who against?

3) Which Town player scored the most league goals for this calendar year, including players that have already departed?

4) Which player has seen the most bookings this calendar year? Same as above, league games only, the answer actually surprised me.

5) Northern Irishmen Brodie Spencer and Callum Marshall were joined by Connor Falls in representing the Terriers this season, but who was the last Northern Irish international to represent the club before those two?

6) Town have had three full time managers in 2024, Moore, Breitenreiter and Duff, but who have the first two gone on to be appointed by?

7) Lee Nicholls began this season as number one, but who was the first player to score past him?

8) Who comes next in this sequence? Rudoni, Simpson, Jackson, Austerfield...?

9) Who comes next in this sequence? Pearson, Helik, Nicholls, Bojan...?

10) The following is an anagram of whom? A Dam Rave Cliche

You need to get out more Snoots - I was still working on the Town questions and was looking to phone a friend or ask the audience for at least 8 of them. I thought maybe the Keighley Caravan driver for 3 to begin with but I thunk about it I agree with your answer. He started scoring regularly after the New year last season, also with 1. He made it 3-1 at Leicester but that didn't last long either. I thought Brighton Writer had maybe asked the best Scottish coach that Germany no longer has to go join him for a game of dominos during Oktoberfest. Didn't think either had a job, well, not in football, well, real football.

I've absolutely no chance with The Luvvies section - I really, really don't watch that stuff and I certainly don't get why there's an awards evening and party (apparently, or lots of parties) every week between New Year and Easter in Hollywood or somewhere else in the world. Why? Don't they have any films/TV progrrammes to shoot or release? I go get the beers in when those rounds start down the pub.

Now had it been about evening programmes on Quest or Dave, I can tell you how to find stuff to fix (for free or then flog it for a profit) and which politicians we were taking the piss out of last year (too easy - all of them). I'm only a couple of months away from being able to wire a magneto, a coil and a spark plug together. I'll rebuild the rest of the bike, lawn mower or tractor later, and I can shake a rattle can with the best of them but quite honestly, anything harder than two or three wires in a plug/socket or a switch needs a fully qualified sparky for me. Always know your limitations, then learn something new.

I phoned a friend and I was left hanging on the telephone ... so here's the answers to one section I've come up with. I've ignored Snoots's answers as he was clearly picking names out of a hat

Lets broaden it a touch, here is Football

1) which player scored the first goal of the 2024/2025 Premier league season? The one after the guy that scored the last goal of last season? Vaguely remember there was a game on Friday for some reason when they normally play them Saturday/Sunday and one on Monday. I'd have to Google who so I'll pass on this one.

2) which two players became the youngest and oldest scorers in euros history this summer? Ronni 7's grandson and Ronnie 7? Or was he the oldest player to cry in a match?

3) which English side were the first to change manager this season? Both Ends were the first to dump theirs (or he walked out) in August.* Does that count as a full change or only half a change?

4) what record was broken in the turkey v Czechia game at this summer's euros? Most cheques bounced in 90 minutes of basting? Fewest spectators (empty stadium?) due to earlier argy bargy?

5) which player won the PFA players player of the year? There's a Blue Mancs theme to this, I was tempted to go Haaland but I think it was Foden

6) and who won young player of the year? an ex Blue Manc now at Chelski (who aren't Chelski anymore realy are they) Cole Palmer

7) who finished as top scorer in the wsl for the season 2023-2024? Don't know but have Town offered her a contract yet?

8) sticking with the wsl, who became the most expensive player when she moved clubs at the end of summer, breaking the world record at the time. Umm, pass.

9) back to the men's game, which manager was the first to lose his job in 2024 overall? Etherington - Colchester*

10) who did Burnley sign for an EFL record fee this summer. Only for him to not make an appearance so far? This is Lancastria again. Sorry, but I don't follow furrin football too closely. You're gonna tell me now he is a real furriner aren't you?

*While I often mention The Sack Race in my threads, I also include it in my match day emails to my nephew and converted friends across the pond - so I didn't Google these, I just searched my own archive. I've taken this season to mean from the first game played and not from after the last games played (play-off's, cup finals, Euro's) last season.
