European Union Referendum - In or Out??
And Obama reiterating the USA trade priority is with the bigger marketplace called the EU and not with a UK trading partner that has separated itself from it's EU partners. Admittedly, Obama will soon be gone but, as expected, if Hilary Clinton succeeds him then that strong line policy will remain intact.

The UK is the USA's 4th biggest export market and the 6th biggest import market as an individual country, so whether Trump or Hillary get into power they will have to talk to the UK at some point fairly early on. Sure the EU as a total entity is bigger, but the UK stil carries a lot of sway over here.

You 'got it in one' in your last line SCO. The huge trading partner is the EU and the UK was stupid enough to break away as a US-EU trading member, one of many, and naively believe that they will be financially better off as an insular, separate entity - utter folly that will be proved in years to come as the United adjective in our UK acronym becomes fragmented in a divided country where it's clear that our population has been 'split down the middle' and polarised by such political folly of the highest order - it's even self-evident in parliament itself!

Actually, I think any trade deal with the US, once it gets sorted, may be one of the few places where the UK could do better without the EU being involved. For me, the worrying trade arrangements will be with the rest of the remaining EU members, concessions will have to be made there probably by both sides and this is where the trading conditions will potentially not be as favorable as they are now. After that its up to the UK to develop deals with other countries that enhance what we already have, we will achieve that is some areas but not in others, the net effect this will have will remain a mystery to all until the deals are actually done.

Still not convinced that Article 50 will ever get signed though.

Yep! I still tend to follow the more qualified views of senior economists and even those of the Governor of the BOE that covered the negative economic risk of initiating Brexit. I kinda share that sceptical view re the current assurances about article 50 ever being activated. A significant number of people within the negotiating infrastructure (civil servants etc) of the UK gov are opposed to Brexit ever happening and the same applies to a high proportion of parliamentarians - not conducive to initiating a seamless split from the EU anyway!!

If, and as I say I think its still a big if, we sign Article 50, then I firmly believe that the negotiating team should be primarily made up of civil servants/MPs that were for Brexit in the first place. Whether we voted remain or leave, and whether we still want it or not, if we reach that point then we have to make sure the best possible deal for leaving the EU is struck by people committed to the cause.

What is the best possible deal for those who voted for brexit.?

Points based immigration? Not happening.

Leaving border treaties. ? Nope

Hundreds of millions more for the NHS? Nope.

Higher wages? Hahahaha.

My guess is a cobbled together deal that keeps us in the single market after the German and French elections. Then the thatcher tribute act that is may can get to work in earnest dismantling the NHS and our public services. Job done really,as this was all to keep the tory vote from splitting.

Thanks for that you horrible xxxx.

Aye! That's a good summary of the 'folly' that I've been referring to! A Tory inspired referendum that should never have taken place in the first place - all part of what I'd call unwise and unstable governance of our country. As for the latest PM incumbent, May? After watching her cringe worthy histrionics in putting down Corbyn yesterday, I'll predict she'll eventually come unstuck by her own unscrupulous Tory peers, just like Thatcher! To see this divisive political party 'ruling the roost' and their leader, May, being at the helm of her 'secret plans of negotiation' absolutely 'makes my blood boil' - no time for Toerags, no time for their media propaganda and no time for their divisive political policies and ideologies! Thumb down They never change!!!!

She can't do that bullingdon bully thing as naturally as Cameron. Her put downs looked over scripted and forced,i know its early days but I'd suggest the comedy approach isn't her strong point.

Its already looking shambolic with her head brexiteer saying we are coming out the single market only to get slapped down from no10. They haven't a clue what they are doing.

When may does that tilted head thing it gives me the xxxx creeps. Too many bad memories of mrs thatcher, like a lot of Scottish folk.

Also saying the £325M additional NHS money, post brexit, is not gonna happen and unachievable - just confirms another one of many lies uttered by the shameless people/politicians who manoeuvred us into this awful position and IMO good reason to stop any brexit move from ever happening anyway mainly because they were peddling a loada shameless lies to deceive the general public and indeed never thought they were gonna win this referendum - clueless along with May herself, another dithering Toerag!
