I'll be glad to see Chester go personally.
Yes he looked decent for Wales and Hull in a back 3, where he was the spare picking up the pieces; but he's completely unproven in a back 4. IMO he's too weak in the air to be a centre half and not good enough moving forward with the ball to be a full back.
Our mistake was signing him to play full back on the basis that he looked quite comfortable on the ball in a back 3. Hopefully lessons have been learnt that you don't pay that sort of money to gamble on someone's position...
McAuley will need to be replaced with a younger model soon but it needs to be someone with similar attributes, a big tough centre half to dominate in the air and play next to Evans (who is our luxury centre half). I don't think Chester was ever going to be the man to replace big Gareth.
I'd like to see Chester go and replaced with a more solid centre half and a decent left back come in. I doubt Evans will play left back as first choice, as TP preferred Brunt last season. Also we've been heavily linked with Schlupp, which would surely mean him (or new left back) and Brunt being our first choice left backs. I wasn't fully convinced with Pocognoli, who seemed too likely to dive in and give away fouls in dangerous areas.

Benteke is an odd one. Looked great at Villa but it would be a huge gamble to spend £30mil on someone that hasn't played much recently. If we're spending that sorta cash on one player must be better value buys on offer abroad, no?
Encouraged that we're still after Taylor and Schlupp - I'd like to see both of them arrive with Chester going, plus a new RB to allow Daws to move into CB and replace McAuley eventually. I'd be happy then at the back.

There's also that risk you always get with players who play their socks off to earn a big career move, then things don't work out for them and they have to drop back down the ladder; they're never the same again. Scott Sinclair, anyone?
It's generally not so bad with those who come through the youth system of a big club before dropping down (most like to think they can still earn a move back up), or those who've spent years at the top and achieved a fair bit (they tend to be good professionals as a result), but the one-season failures are bad news. They've had their shot and missed it, and as a result they just don't care anymore.

I'm honestly shocked some people don't want Benteke, he was superb for Villa a lot of the time and had a decent scoring record for Liverpool last season (hit double figures), suited to the way we're going to play perfectly, the only question mark would be the fact that he's hardly featured in pre season so might not be properly match fit for awhile. He'd cost at least twice our club record transfer, huge wages and there's competition for him, so we're very unlikely to get him.

I'm with Baird on this one
Would you really turn your noses up at Benteke ?
What as Baggie fans do you expect ?
Probably won't happen anyway
However with an improved bid for Schlupp and a £20 Million bid for a player from sporting Lisbon whose name escapes me shows good intent from the club,
I just hope they back it up
Leed have just signed a full back interesting as regarding Taylor Maybe
But one to cross off is Ighalo now, he has just signed a new 5 year contract.

He did blow hot and cold Bairdy especially at the Vile.
Seem to remember him going weeks and weeks at one time without scoring and lashing out £30m spondulies is a big gamble.
Don't worry Bairdy - it's all part of 'Uncle Tone's' big plan to put us on the brink of relegation and then walk, keeping his 'never been relegated' record.

Now why would he want to do that?

I might turn my nose up. Not because I don't rate him, I just think 30 million is too much for him. Palace are reputedly putting in a £31.5 million bid after already having 25 million turned down. Yes he was a proven goal scorer at the Vile and probably single handed kept them up two seasons ago. If we get the Villa Benteke firing on all cylinders, then maybe a good buy at 30 mil, but the Liverpool Benteke for a £30 million plus asking price, not so sure its worth the risk.
I think at present our best bet is to take Berahino's teddy bear hostage and send him back a few hairs at a time, if Berahino does not maintain a 2 in 3 goal ratio.

If we were going to spend 25-30 odd mil, I would prefer Islam Slimani over Benteke. He has much better movement and work rate and could play along side Rondon as well as the lone striker. Benteke is a bit lazy, and in a team such as WBA in its current form, possession is going to be minimal, and he would have to work really hard closing down such as Rondon does.

Too late to impact the Palace game.
