Only 14-5 down, then a yellow card and lose 12 points without reply. Well beaten by 33-10 and another 4th place.

That was well disappointing last night. Not being a big watcher of rugby 7s, is this kind of turn around unusual? I mean beating Canada 22-0 in the group, then getting hammered by the same opposition in the medal match.

We suffered from making basic mistakes, Snooty. Canada rattled us with their tenacity in the tackle and we caved in. Too many English players if you ask me!

Yes indeed boyo!
Anyway, how come the four rugby nation's authorities can get GB teams together for the rugby, but the football authorities can't? And what's with the Japanese beating New Zealand?

The thing with rugby is there is absolutely no history of international pressure for us to compete as one country away from the Olympics, take the home nations out of world rugby and you cut the number of teams in half that play the game!! in football, there have been enough calls for us to compete as GB or the UK by other countries in the past that the FA will simply not let us potentially move towards that by competing as a single team in any competition at all. Maybe a bit knee jerk, but we simply don't play football anywhere except as England, Scotland and Wales and the Olympics doesn't allow that.

The relative football associations don't wanna give FIFA any opportunity/leverage of removing their international status as separate practising entities by permanently merging them into a GB team set up! Also the All Black sevens side suffered some horrendous injuries to key players during their match v Japan eg Sonny Bill is out for months with a bad achilles injury - very unlucky and yet they still had a very good opp to win it in the dying secs of the game.

Amazingly GB v Argentina ends 0-0 at full time. Then Tom Mitchell hits the post with a penalty kick before Dan Bibby scores the Golden Try or whatever it's called.
Semi-final time tomorrow against either Australia or South Africa. Fiji play Japan in the other Semi-final. South Africa 22 Australia 5. A special mention for SA no11 who bounced his conversion attempt off the top of the left post - he'll not do it again in a hurry!

Aye, a bit one sided that.
Congratulations to Fiji on their first ever Olympic medal. |
