The men's road race was one by Belgium's Greg van Avermaet. Chris Froome didn't medal, but Geraint Thomas looked like he was in with a shout before crashing not far from the finish.

Recover well in this game. Its only like another day on the TDF though innit?

I'm not sure, at least in the TDF they can have a "day off" with their team helping them and them letting the sprinters or mountain specialists win the leg, while keeping an eye on the other challengers. I suppose it is essentially 4 days rest.

I bet there are no days off for these guys. Just a light training spin of 30km.

The women fared no better in the downhill section with an horrendous crash involving the Dutch leader, Annemiek van Vleuten. She seems to be in a stable condition in hospital though.

The Gold was won by her compatriot, Anna van der Breggen, just beating Emma Johansson of Sweden, with Elisa Longo Borghini of Italy taking the Bronze. The three overhauled long time leader Mara Abbott in the final 500m. GB's Lizzie Armitstead was a creditable 5th, but had fallen too far behind in the climb to have a positive medal chance.

Wednesday sees the Individual Time Trials - women at 12.30pm and men at 2.00pm. My tips would be Ellen van Dijk and Tom Dumoulin for a Dutch double. The Belgians and the Dutch seem to be the ones in form and GB will be relying on Chris Froome for their hopes, but he seems to have nothing left in his legs since the second week of the Tour de France.

And he has been a bit angry since well before the start of the event.

For the women, Kristin Armstrong of USA won her 3rd Olympic Time Trial in a row at the age of 42 (she's 43 tomorrow). Cheaty McDrugCheat of Russia won the Silver Medal and the Road Race winner, Anna van der Breggen of Netherlands, was 3rd. My choice, Ellen van Dijk finished 4th after running out of road and coming to a halt during the race. The lost time was probably enough to deny her the chance of Gold.

In the Men's Time Trial, Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland ended a glorious career with his second Olympic Gold, beating my choice, Dutchman Tom Dumoulin (who rode with a broken wrist) by 47.41 seconds and Chris Froome of GB by 62.12 seconds.

Now it's on to the Track events tomorrow where GB have a great chance of a few more medals.
