All I'm saying neither was the innocent hibs fans who only there to celebrate

I never said all Hibs fans were to blame!!!  I accepted the premise of a celebratory pitch invasion but also that that is what precipitated the following violence.

There is no doubt England fans get targeted, and we all know we have enough idiots that will respond, but banning England or blaming all England fans is not the answer to the problem. Any trouble, however small makes nice big headlines with the media whereas other troubles will get few if any column inches.

I just re-read my OP and it's there to generate debate but is it really so inflammatory? That's a tad strong TBF and it's all in the eyes of the beholder! Read the title itself!! I think the majority of reasonable thinking posters will accept that an unsavoury event 'kicked off' in Marseilles and England fans were involved in it, one way or the other!! The prob has escalated to the point where French riot Police have been involved. Many of us expected this scenario to unfold and previously perceived it was very likely to involve England fans AGAIN!! I must say I was certainly surprised to see these events unfold so prematurely. Another factor that has baffled me is why on earth UEFA actually arranged this fixture v Russia to be played in one of the most ethnically diverse and volatile cities in France!!! Pardon the pun but IMO this was a massive OG on the part of UEFA and I'm surprised no other poster picked up on this point that England and some of their misbehaving fans have a past black history in this city!! Most of the threads/comments re this topic have been reasonable and other comments have been understandably defensive. However, the persistence of certain factions of England football fans to consistently cause mayhem in different Euro cities down the years has never really disappeared!! Just google the problem with English football hooliganism and you'll be studying lotsa similar indiscretions that go back decades and the problem has still not been redressed!! By all means challenge me but be enlightened by the historical facts that cover this type of problem when high numbers of so called England fans travel to watch a game of footie!! If only they all did just that, we wouldn't be debating the same old issues, not just on this Sb board but also on the world news and sports media channels. Lets hope this shit ends in Marseilles and we can focus on the joys of 'the beautiful game'. However, I'm not 'holding my breath' in great anticipation! Rolleyes The 'touch paper has been lit' and it will be difficult to douse it!!

Two England fans critical in hospital, they're saying now.

At least they're reporting now that it's not just the England fans behind it all.

I took it that you were having a pop at the English, 0762, but I didn't take offence personally. I'm quite happy for you to stimulate debate. I'm not proud of any troublemakers from the English camp but I also question who starts it. We know from other stories that there is a lot of prejudice in Russia so I'm sure they're not entirely blameless tonight.
