The thing in common between Rangers and Aston Villa is failure at Board level.

Fortunately Rangers have resolved this and then recruited wisely by appointing Mark Warburton and David Weir.
Everything is now run professionally and we are enjoying and will continue to enjoy the benefits of this.

There have been positive Board changes at Aston Villa, but the repair job has yet to begin. What makes it galling is that the rot that they need to remove was allowed to set in due to the incompetence of the owner and the maladministration of the Club by his previous appointees. AVFC's journey back will depend heavily on the correct decisions, on choice of Manager downwards, being made now.

Fortunately Rangers' journey back is almost done, just this Season to see through by, as former AVFC Manager Vic Crowe said in 1972, 'being professional and ruthless to the end'. Thumb up

Villa eventually playing the likes of Alan Hutton, after his loan spell with Real Mallorca, was absolutely baffling. He is a reasonable player but never anywhere close to Premiership standard. There are other AV players who 'were in the same boat' but the restrictions on any of Lerner's managers were self evident as well as a no comment contractual clause that shut them up when they eventually left the club. Definitely one of the worst downward spirals of any failed Premiership footie club.

Not sure the bottom of the spiral has been reached by Villa yet!!! Prem teams that do well the following year tend to do so with essentially the same side that comes down, this Villa team would get relegated in the Championship!! Going to be a massive summer for them!!

Vic was the Villa manager I remember when I first attended Villa Park. Thumb up

It will be interesting to see how they intend to rebuild but I fear it will need the Lerner influence to go completely. Relegation has been coming for 3 to 4 years due to his and others at top level. Its a shame but lets hope they can turn the corner and get back to where they belong. I think this is going to be a lot harder than it has been for the Gers and I hope they don't end up like a lot of other past great clubs stuck in the lower leagues. ....Leeds United, Notts Forest, Sheff Wednesday and United, Preston, Bolton etc etc. Unless a rich buyer comes in and they choose the right manager and buy wisely it will be a long road back. As SCO says it will be a massive Summer for them Confused

Sorry, got off topic there so back to Wednesday, I am staying up for this one after Hampden on Saturday and looking forward to a good game. Will be interesting to see how the players recover after both of their efforts in the Cup over the weekend. Hibs have had the extra day to recover but I feel in every game now we look very leggy after 70 minutes which I feel the Gers will capitalise on....perhaps by that time we will be leading 4:0 Whistle

......but won't be holding my breath. Have a good one Thumb up
