Strachan's1st 2016 international friendly match: Czech v Scotland
#1
Scotland's next World Cup group campaign is not that far away and it's time for Gordon Strachan to start looking at any new young talent that he can seriously consider to add to his Scotland squad as well as get rid of the 'dead wood' after another failed Euro Championship group campaign.
He has opted for two different groups of players to cover this international + the next one v Denmark and it will be interesting to see how he develops the new shape of the Scotland team as the months run down and we compete in another challenging World Cup group with England no doubt the favourites to top our group.

9 uncapped players included was it ?

He has an experienced spine of players and he can bring the new players in as he sees fit. On more than one occasion he has brought the youngsters in just to get experience of the set up.

Another challenging group lies ahead, but i feel better about our chances of qualifying next time out.

Yes. I think it was 9 uncapped players split between the two squads. Wee Gordon knows what he's doing and hopefully he can utilise enough reasonable quality players, a nice mix of experience and youth, to mount a really good challenge on our upcoming World Cup group.

FT and a 0-1 Scotland victory over the Czechs Thumb up Akeche Anya scored from a great through pass by Ross McCormack. A good result for Scotland who should've been awarded a PK! Shagger definitely the MOTM with some outstanding saves.

Good to see Barry Bannan get on in the 2nd half, he has been superb for us this season!!

I would be interested to hear your views on Jordan Rhodes though, why does he not get into the squad, let alone the team, yet Fletcher does??? Rhodes and McCormack are the two most natural goal scorers you have at your disposal, why is Rhodes not used??

Decent enough defensive performance. And i thought ross mccormack was good.

2nd half an unfamiliar scotland side performed well. The czechs are a good side and i think they might do quite well at the euros.

SCO - rhodes omission troubles me at times too.... far more than the non appearance of an average rangers left back which the press take delight in focussing on , i can only imagine the manager thinks rhodes doesn't do enough work outside the box which is a key role for any scotland striker as we tend to play with one up front.

The reason is because Strachan's a prideful, arrogant dick, plain and simple. Similar to Wallace, he's made excuses in the past for not using Rhodes that didn't really stand up to scrutiny, and now he'll never do anything that might show him up for being wrong. His main complaint about Rhodes was that he didn't think he could play as a lone striker. The only problems with that are that a) Rhodes has successfully played the role at times at club level and b) we often revert to 2 up front when we need to in internationals. Last night we started with 2 up top, and it would have been the ideal chance for Rhodes to make himself a serious contender.

Whooaaa! There are lotsa international managers who have similar attributes to Gordon Strachan and these guys have their own ideas on what attacking format and players best suit them. I think Rhodes will eventually be listed in Strachan's World Cup squads but there will be a 'pecking order' that he'll need to break in to. He has played in previous Scotland matches and I suspect that's where a player can either impress the manager and coaches or he just doesn't stir the imagination at all in all round off field behaviour and form on the pitch. That's just the way it is!

You truly can't please everyone 0762. The manager has said he knows what those players can do,so i expect we will see wallace and rhodes involved at some point in the qualifiers. He certainly doesn't owe wallace anything as he chose playing in the lower leagues of scotland instead of an international career. He must have known what would follow.

The players seem to want to play for strachan more than levein, surprising considering how badly his character has been painted on here.

I think the lone striker thing is pish!! Steven Fletcher is a player I don't rate that highly and has a goals ratio of around a goal every 3 games, Rhodes has a goal ratio of less than 2 games per goal, yet Fletcher consistently gets picked!!! Rhodes is younger and is a true poacher who is ideally suited to the lone striker both in terms of pace and ability!!! He would be by far your best option for playing one up top and playing a No10 behind him. Strachan is being stubborn in not playing him for some reason and its this stubbornness from managers that cause teams to not achieve what they can by not playing the best 11 players at your disposal!!!
