THE MATCH - SUNDAY 20TH DECEMBER 2015 2PM KO
v
I have seen it stated that this has become a must win game for us after our recent results. While I don't for one minute think this is a must win game, we are simply too early in the season for that to be the case, I do think this is a "could really do with winning" game!!! We have stuttered and there is never anything better for a clubs whole being to win a game and put everything back on the right track!!
But, we are playing Wolves!! As Imre stated earlier this week we haven't beaten them at Hillsborough since I was 6 months old!!!! But hell, records are there to be broken and we are definitely due a win both against them and in general, so why shouldn't it be on Sunday!! So lets get on to the stats with this one!! This will be the 113th meeting between us with an overall record of W36 D30 L46, so a bit behind them in that one. Prior to that last win in September 1964, we had a great home record against them W26 D7 L4, we won't find many as good as that but in the 16 games since then our record is W0 D8 L8!!!!!! Complete contrast but still our overall record at home is good at W26 D15 L12, so lets focus on the overall record for this one!!!
Interestingly Wolves have played three FA Cup semis at Hillsborough and have not registered a win, having drawn all three games!! Maybe we should treat this like a cup semi final then if we want to avoid defeat!!!
LINKS BETWEEN THE CLUBS
Current staff:
From what I can see they have 3 ex-Owls playing for them:
Danny Batth
Grant Holt
Benik Afobe
.............although interestingly none of these were ever our players as all of them were on loan to us at the time.
Past Players
Marlon Beresford, Stephen Bywater, John Holsgrove, Jim McCalliog, Lawrie Madden, Peter Shirtliff, Andy Sinton, Darren Potter, Daniel Jones (best left foot outside the prem!!! ), Andy Blair, Leon Clarke (scored winner for them in the last game at S6!! ), Michael Gray and Andy Blair.
Past Managers
Dave Jones managed both teams to promotion.
I am sure there are other links between the clubs, if you know of any please feel free to mention!!
THE LAST MATCH
Not sure we really want to talk about or relive that one. probably our poorest performance of the season, particularly as it was against opposition who had been struggling to score and were in the relegation places!! This was a game that we should have won on paper, but on grass we just didn't compete!! You can tell how bad we were when Darren Potter was described as running the show in midfield!!!
OUR TEAM
Multiple changes again in midweek I like the fact we can switch the team around more than we have been able to for a long time but I am far from convinced we need to nor that its really working!! Sure we have injuries that force changes, no problem with that but is there any Owls fans who want to see Nuhiu start up front again?? Wasn't his fault we lost, but he sure doesn't help!! Aside from that I would like the team to look like this:
Westwood
Palmer Loovens Turner Pudil
Lee Hutchinson Bannan
Forestieri
Hooper Joao
Lets attack from the start, especially as we are the home team, lets get a lead and then push on from there. The bench is looking a bit thin on quality at the moment but if our best 11 can't win the game then our second string side isn't going to!!
