McIlroy missed a few months earlier so the more he plays now the better he will be for next year imo.

He's done ok since his injury, and even with a decent field against him, if he can put 4 steady rounds together, he should be in with a shout.
Nothing great will ever be achieved without great men, and men are great only if they are determined to be so. For glory gives herself only to those who have always dreamed of her.

Really don't know if he is serious about this one. Watched his pre tournament interview & he said all the right things but still not totally convinced that he is there to win a golf tournament.

Eddie Pepperill has withdraw from the Portugal Masters with a bad back so no bet there,

Could be how he starts to see if he is up for it or not, if he bogeys the first few holes, you might be right, but if he birdies the first few that could get him going.

You are probably right although I am not saying he is not up for it, just think it is questionable.

Alexander Levy 30/1 +1 T87th
NicolasColsaerts 60/1 -7 T1st
Gary Stal 125/1 -2 T33rd
Pelle Edberg 125/1 +2 T98th

Colsaets blazed a trail here, going six under par after eight holes. After that he coasted a bit but is ideally placed to challenge here.

Levy dropped two shots in the opening three holes and then spent the rest of the round gambling, going in lakes etc.

Brendan Steele leads the way on -9 at the Frys.com Dpoen which is frustrating as he was in my shortlist for this event. Here is how my picks finished Round One:

Hideki Matsuyama 18/1 -2 T48
Tony Finau 40/1 -2 T48
Jonas Blixt 150/1 -2 T48
Derek Fathauer 200/1 +2 T124

One of these needs to have a big round to get back in contention or else the top four will get away. Although none of the leaders are big names, Steele is a quality player with a great record in California and it is hard to give him a seven shot lead.

Colsaerts decided to gamble today & it has pretty much cost him his chance here. A three over par 8 on the twelfth & three other bogeys meant his six birdies counted for little. He became a little too familiar with the lakes, hitting three of them.

Storms are forecast for the weekend so anything could happen.
