Tbh I can't find a link and it looks like just a rumour on a Wigan site but if that truly is the extent of our ambition whilst Watford are splashing £7m on Diego Perotti then we are well on the way to having the worst squad in the league.

The owner situation needs to be sorted out ASAP and then we need to start signing some GOOD players, not the dross we are being linked with.

No offence mate, but I'm pretty sure sure you said that last season and we finished 13th. So let's just see what happens on the pitch.

Care to expand? I rated most of our signings last year - bar Davidson and Baird - who I openly said were nowhere near good enough and was proved to be right.
But you must surely agree that judging by pre season transfers, QPR would have a good season (caulker , Ferdinand, Fer etc.). This, of course, did not turn out to be the case. So let's just stop this swooning over other clubs, and 'swap us with a championship club, we don't deserve to be in the league', nonsense. Until we see the teams out on the pitch, at least.

Sportsbabble would be a very quiet place if we all kept quiet and hoped for the best  Smile

It would only be good business if TP is given the required cash to replace him with a decent goal scorer.

Individually Townsend & Lennon would be great signings for us but i really wouldn't want it to happen if it involved Saido moving the other way
For a club at our level it is very tough to find strikers who will guarantee you 10+ goals. If we keep him we still need to find another and if we lose him then we'll need to find two that can hit double figures i'm really not sure we would manage it to be honest.
just a little (and obvious) stat 4 of the bottom 5 scored less goals than games played....Do we really want to end up going into July without any goalscorers?

Snap there hands off. I really like These two. It's exactly what we need, two fast tricky wingers. Get these two and spend £10million on a striker and I would be happy. All we would need then is a LB, RB and a decent AM player or is that asking too much

Last time we spent £10mil on a striker it didn't work. Why bother risking it when we have a striker who can score goals already? Lennon past his best and Townsend vastly overrated

On the face of it, it is a fair deal. But I wouldn't accept it, which is all well and good because there is no chance in a million years of it happening.

Lennon wouldn't drop down to us after rejecting Hull last season to be a bit-part at Everton and not really looking happy about that (search for the pictures when he joined them). Townsend wouldn't join us either, imo, as the only reason he gets in the England squad is that he plays for a top 6 club - join us and his England career is effectively over.

As for why I wouldn't accept it, neither Townsend or Lennon are consistent or prolific scorers. If the deal did go through then we would still have to sign 2 10+ goal a season strikers, which would cost us in excess of £20m, unless we gamble on unproven players and that could well spell trouble.

I don't think Saido will be going anywhere this summer tbh.

Happens every year, BC.  Same old, same old.  Wish we could get a few of the positive Albion posters to Express & Star threads on here.

It's hard to be positive when you're linked with James f*****g Perch  Doh

If there is any news that I perceive as positive, i.e that we were seriously interested in Gignac and that we now appear to be looking at Demba Ba, then I will react accordingly. But you can't expect blind faith in the club and "positivity" all of the time. I've already stated that it was unlikely we were actually looking at James Perch, but IF that is the type of quality that we are looking to bring in I have enough knowledge of football to realise that it will be a long, hard season.

Patience may be a virtue but we are being left behind by the 'bigger' clubs like Swansea and Watford (!) and you have to ask why.

Is it the area with West Bromwich not being exactly as swish and upmarket such as Surrey, Alderey Edge or Wilmslow?
Is it the Pulis factor? His transfer record at Sjoke was not exactly inspiring and does he really attract those quality players available on the market.
Is it JP wanting to keep the till shut until he's sold out and pockets a few more £m's?
Is it going to be another panic deadline day on 31 August when we sign another load of dross?

I fear it is going to be a long uninspiring summer.

As for Saido, our one gem in the front line, if we had any ambition whatsoever, we would be hanging on to him at all costs, not selling our prized asset but adding quality players to play alongside him.

Given the history of our club, why should we settle for second raters, has been's or aged players and not accept mid to lower table mediocrity.

It is not possible to buy players until July 1st and we have always managed our transactions behind closed doors.  Typically the deals we do are not those we have read about in the tabloids and on the websites. We all know that they stir up and exaggerate or, dare I say, make up, transfer activity to justify their jobs and promote their sites.

Why get flustered or emotional about 'stuff' at this stage.

Not complaining that you are expressing yourselves on here. We are all very passionate about our club and we are all desperate for that big signing and a signal from the club that ambition is on the agenda.  But I just worry about you all, your blood pressure and health - please take some deep breaths and ensure you see out the summer and enjoy the new season when it arrives
