I personally think they'll test him out on loan at a premier league side before making a judgement & I don't think we'd spend £8M on a unproven striker anyway

We spent £6 million on the unproven Victor Anichebe and £10 million on the PL-untested Brown Ideye. If we could offload Anichebe, we should stop messing about and go for Charlie Austin.
I don't think we actually paid anything like those prices which were reported in the press i think Anichebe was about £3.5M (still too much!) and Ideye not a lot more with the rest of it being performance related add-ons and its hard to see us paying out anymore money for them. I couldn't just imagine Chelsea's reaction if we say to them we'll give you £3M now and the other £5M if he's any good Laugh
Whatever happens we've got to get it right this Summer we can't afford to be so reliant on Berahino (if he's still here) we definitely need a natural finisher and probably a 'Pulis' Type, As i said above i would go for Jordan Rhodes as long as the price wasn't to daft he's a natural finisher and always seems to find himself in the right place a knack which can't be taught for me he'd hit double figures as will Saido Thumb up

I agree with most of Tom's post. Either one very good striker or bring in 2, I'd like to have 4 at the end of the window. I think Charlie Austin will aim higher than us personally, Swansea or Southampton maybe.

I would be very happy to see Jordan Rhodes here, either alongside Saido or as a ready made replacement, either way we can afford him. Fact.
Bonum vinum laetificat cor hominis.

Its a sad indictment Tom:

"I think Charlie Austin will aim higher than us personally, Swansea or Southampton maybe."

Swansea and Southampton now ranked above West Bromwich Albion - short term maybe, long term never !

I didn't say that Smile  But i tend to agree though if 5-6 premier league clubs came in for him we'd be towards the bottom of the pile when it come to his preference

I said it, atm they'll probably spend more than us and they were much better than us in the season just gone, and Southampton are in Europe. I get what you mean about long term though, in terms of his career I wouldn't mind Berahino going to Swansea or Southampton (one of these two would be my preferred choice for him) but we've been in the premier league for longer than both of them and we're bigger than them (definitely Swansea) so I wouldn't be able to take it if he went to them.

Is it bad that I'm so desperate for football that I'm watching Uruguay v Jamaica? (Suarez isn't even playing, or Lugano).

betterthanbaird, haven't you just contradicted yourself there about your preferred choices for where Berahino goes (Swansea or Southampton) but you wouldn't be able to take it if he goes to either one of them? Or have I misread you?

I think they'd be the best moves for his career but I wouldn't want to lose him to a club of their sizes.
