Sporting Predictions 2025
The F1 today was apparently a follow the leader procession. They might as well have been driving Volvo's towing caravans around the Dales and The Lake District for all the chances of overtaking were concerned.

The Masters is half-way through and so far we've all made the cut and are in with a decent shout. Nobody saw blooming Rose coming though. Tongue
Dechambeau is 2nd, McIlroy T3, Sheffler is T5 with only 2 shots separatinge three of them. Fleetwood and Schauffele are T17 3 shots further back. McIlroy had the best 2nd round shooting 6 under par. 2 more days play to decide the winner of the Green Jacket. They'll be teeing off between 18:10 and 19:40 today UK time or 13:10 - 14:40 Stateside, give or take a time zone.

We've also got the Boat Race on the turdy Thames on Sunday. Come on you blooo'ooos, and a night race in Bahrain for the F1 if you fancy a break from watching little white balls being smacked around a big green field.

I'd say you're going to be a lot nearer than my now way over-optimistic prediction ritchie Thumb up

So having come home to see what mayhem has gone on in the wonderfully wacky world of sport this afternoon so far ....

Cambridge won the paddle through the poo up the Thames - points to AmChaff, SHEP and me, getting two of us off the mark.
They also won the womens race despite Oxford trying to ram the Cambridge boat shortly after the off apparently.

In the FI, Norris's team mate Piastri won from George Russell and Norris, though give it another hour and that could all change.
In the constructors championship - provisional standings are:

1 McLaren 151pts
2 Mercedes 93
3 Red Bull 71
4 Ferrari 57

In the drivers championship, even more provisional given the stewards liking for picking bones over long after everyone else has gone home

1 Norris (McLaren) 77pts
2 Oscar Piastri (McLaren) 74
3 Max Verstappen (Red Bull) 69
4 George Russell (Mercedes) 63

The golf goes on until just before the little white dot appears in the middle of your tellybox screen tonight. Well, it does if it's on a timer like mine. A few of our picks dropped away yesterday but DecChambeau is 2nd now behind McIlroy as they go hammer and tongue against each other today with plenty other golfers sniffing for any scraps they drop. An early starter Matsuyama has already gone round in 66, he shot 79 yesterday, so whilst Tommy Fleetwood now looks out of it you wouldn't rule out the longer odd's (compared to McIlroy and DeChambeau) Sheffler and Schauffele making a charge.

Back in front now though. It's all swings and missed putts.

This course is around 7700 yds for these guys. The courses I play round my neck of the woods (and occasionally round yours) are 5500-6500. Given an average par 4 is around 350 yds that's like playing 3 extra holes on a longer course that I'd play on. I'd never be invited, but if I could shoot close to 72 on either 9, let alone 18, there I'd be delighted.

PS I doubt I could afford it either

Fleetwood posted a decent 69 today, he did the same in the 2nd round, but two rounds in the 70's including 75 yesterday did for him. Bubba Watson has checked in at 3 under so no win for Fleetwood.

Rory roared into a 5 shot lead before going all Rory again. Justin Rose, also with an eye on a first green jacket, stuck his thorns out and Rory'd back up the leaderboard to ramble a final round 66 into a tie with Rory (73) for a play-off, but Rory roared once more. Points to Snoots, SCO and me again. ritchie is still keeping his powder dry.
