Oxford United have signed Poland international winger Przemyslaw Placheta.

The 26-year-old has moved on a free transfer, having been released by Swansea earlier this summer.

He joined Swansea from Norwich on a short-term deal in January but his spell with the Welsh club ended up being a brief one.

Oxford, who were promoted to the Championship via last season's League One play-offs, have not disclosed the length of Placheta's contract.

“I know I can be a good player in the Championship. My strengths are my dribbling, speed and directness and I know what the gaffer expects from his wingers.

Placheta, who was at German club RB Leipzig as a youngster, joined Norwich in July 2020, having previously played in Poland for Pogon Siedlce, Podbeskidzie and Slask Wroclaw.

He started just 19 league matches for Norwich and spent the first part of the 2022-23 season on loan at Birmingham.

Midfielder Tyler Goodrham has signed a new "long-term" contract with Oxford United.

The 20-year-old made 51 appearances across all competitions for the U's last season and played the full 90 minutes in the final of the League One play-offs, where they won promotion to the Championship.

“This was a no-brainer for me as we know where the club is going, and I aspire to help Oxford reach their ambitions in this division.”

Goodrham, whose 10 goals and five assists marked his highest goal contributions for a season in senior football last term, will be part of an Oxford side that returns to the second tier of English football for the first time in 25 years.

“Tyler is such a positive person and player, and it is fantastic that he has signed a new contract," head coach Des Buckingham, said.

“He had his breakout season last year and contributed extremely well to our attacking style of play while also being able to demonstrate his all-round ability on the biggest stage."

Buckingham's side begin their Championship season on 10 August when they face Norwich City at the Kassam Stadium.

Championship newcomers Oxford United have signed former West Bromwich Albion winger Matt Phillips.

Phillips, 33, was one of seven senior players released by the Midlands club at the end of last season, ending an eight-year stay at The Hawthorns.

"I'm delighted - it’s a great opportunity for me and I can't wait to get started," Phillips told Oxford's official website, external.

"I want to have another successful season with the team here and I feel like I have a lot to offer. This is an opportunity for me to come and play football and really go and do something special."

The Kassam Stadium will be Phillips' fifth different permanent home in the Football League after previous stints at Wycombe, Blackpool, QPR and West Brom as well as a brief loan spell with Sheffield United in 2011.

The 16-cap Scotland international, who has scored 67 goals in 506 senior appearances across his career, is the U's 10th summer signing.

Des Buckingham's side will host Norwich on Saturday, 10 August, on the EFL's opening weekend.

Oxford United have signed winger Malcolm Ebiowei on loan for the 2024-25 season from Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Ebiowei has made five appearances for Palace since joining the club in 2022, having previously spent time in the academies of Chelsea, Arsenal and Derby.

The 20-year-old also played in three friendlies for England's Under-20s side and spent last season on loan with Belgian side RWD Molenbeek.

Ebiowei's arrival at Oxford follows the signing of fellow winger Matt Phillips, formerly of West Brom, 24 hours earlier.

"The wide areas are one area that we were keen to make additions to, and with Matt Phillips joining on Thursday, and now Malcolm, these signings will help us play the way we want to going forward," said head coach Des Buckingham.

"I have had some really good conversations with Malcolm before signing, and he is a player and person who is ready to learn and develop, and hopefully we can see the best of him this season."

Championship newcomers Oxford United have signed Tottenham striker Dane Scarlett on a season-long loan.

Scarlett, 20, has made 17 first-team appearances for Spurs.

He spent the first half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship, failing to score in 12 substitute appearances.

Scarlett's arrival follows Oxford’s 2-0 win at home to Norwich City in their first match since sealing League One promotion.

"The team did really well last season, and I see an opportunity here for myself - Oxford for me was the best option to come and prove myself and show what I can do," Scarlett told the club website., external

Scarlett briefly became Tottenham's youngest ever player, aged 16 years and 247 days, when he came on in their Europa League game with Ludogorets in November 2020.

"Dane is such an exciting young centre-forward and we expect that he can begin making a difference straight away," Oxford boss Des Buckingham said.

“Not only does he bring an eye for goal, but his pace and intelligence will be important to us both in the way we attack and in the way we press."

Oxford United have signed right-back Hidde ter Avest and forward Marselino Ferdinan on free transfers.

Ter Avest, 27, has joined on a "long-term contract" having not been offered a new deal by Eredivise club FC Utrecht.

Indonesia international Marselino, 19, spent last season with KMSK Deinze in Belgium. He has three goals in 26 appearances for his country.

The pair become the U's 13th and 14th signings of the summer transfer window.

Ter Avest began his career with FC Twente and made 100 appearances for the club after his debut in 2015.

A move to Italian side Udinese followed ahead of the 2018-19 season before he returned to the Netherlands in 2021 to join Utrecht.

“Hidde is a very strong personality and another wonderful addition to our group," head coach Des Buckingham said.

“He is strong, quick, and has great technical ability and we are confident he will be an important player for us going forward."


Oxford United have been majority owned by Indonesian investors Anindya Bakrie and Erick Thohir since late 2022.

“The Club has strong ties with Indonesia and through our continuous conversations, we were made aware of Marselino’s ability," Buckingham added.

“While unproven at this level, it is clear that Marselino is extremely talented with good international experience, and it will be exciting to see how he adapts to life at Oxford United."

Marselino, who has over 3.9 million Instagram followers, started his career in Indonesia with Persebaya Surabaya.

"Being the first Indonesian-born player to play in the Championship if selected fills me with immense pride," he said.

The U's travel to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Saturday.

Oxford United have signed Birmingham City winger Siriki Dembele for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old has agreed an undisclosed long-term contract at the Kassam Stadium and is the U's 15th signing of the summer.

BBC Radio Oxford understands the fee breaks the club’s transfer record.

Dembele said: “I have played against Oxford a few times and it looks like an exciting time for the team, so that’s why I have signed and now I want to do something big with the club.”

He started his career at Grimsby Town and had spells at Peterborough United, Bournemouth and Auxerre before moving to Birmingham City.

Dembele scored six goals in 37 appearances for the Blues last season.

"We are delighted to have landed Siriki on a permanent contract as we continue to strengthen the team," said head coach Des Buckingham.

“He is a player with proven quality at this level and above and his football style compliments our attacking play.

“Siriki is exactly the type of profile that we were looking to bring in at this stage of the window. He is a player that can come straight into the group and make a difference, and we are all excited to see him in action.”

Oxford United have completed the signing of forward Ole Romeny from Dutch top-flight club Utrecht in what is believed to be a club-record deal.

Romeny, 24, has reportedly agreed a three-and-a-half year contract to move to the Kassam Stadium for an undisclosed fee.

He played 13 games in the Eredivisie this season, scoring two goals for a team who are third in the league.

Dutch-born, he represented the Netherlands at under-20 level, but he is eligible to play for Indonesia through his maternal grandmother.

"I have had very good conversations with the club, and I know they are extremely ambitious, and I believe the plans they have in place will really suit me," Romeny told the club's website, external.

"Even though I've only recently arrived at the club, I have had many conversations with the recruitment team about our plans for this January window," said Rowett.

"Very early in those discussions, Ole's name was brought to my attention and, having watched a number of his clips, I'm pleased we could move quickly to bring him into the club."

Romeny's arrival comes on the same day the U's agreed to loan striker Will Goodwin to League One Wigan the rest of the season.

Oxford United have recalled defender Stephan Negru from his season-long loan with League Two promotion challengers Salford City.

Negru has made 17 league starts for Salford this season since joining them in July.

The 22-year-old signed for Oxford from League of Ireland side Shelbourne in January 2023 and made 15 appearances in their League One promotion-winning campaign last season.

He returns to Oxford in time for this weekend's FA Cup third-round tie at Exeter, with the U's having an injury doubt surrounding defender Elliott Moore.

Moore suffered a groin injury in the win at Millwall on 1 January and missed Saturday's draw at Preston North End.

Meanwhile, Oxford have confirmed goalkeeper Ed McGinty has signed for League of Ireland club Shamrock Rovers on a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old, who made 10 first-team appearances for the U's, had been on loan with Sligo Rovers, from whom he joined Oxford in 2022.

Oxford United have signed striker Tom Bradshaw from fellow Championship side Millwall for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old ends a seven-year spell with the Lions and links up with former Millwall manager Gary Rowett at the Kassam Stadium.

On Tuesday, Rowett said the Wales forward would be a "great addition" to his squad as he looks to add experience to last season's League One play-off winners.

"This is something that I feel like I need in my career," said Bradshaw, whose contract length has not been disclosed by Oxford.

"This is a fresh start, a fresh challenge, and I'm ready to go out and impress everyone here at the club.

"I have seen first-hand this season how strong and competitive the team here is having played against United twice, and this group is one that I want to be involved in.

"The cherry on top is getting to work with Gary again, who was my coach for four years, so I know what he wants from me and hopefully we can deliver together."

Having started out at Shrewsbury Town, Bradshaw joined Walsall in 2014 where he scored 40 goals in a two-year spell before moving to Barnsley in the Championship.

Following the Tykes' relegation to League One in 2018, he joined Millwall, initially on loan before making the move permanent in January 2019.

Bradshaw has gone on to score 45 goals in 211 appearances for the club.

"He's a player who has scored 17 goals for me in this league only two years ago, so I know all about his quality as a player and it's there for everyone to see," Rowett added.

"I believe the team can really benefit from his Championship knowledge. He is a person with an incredible enthusiasm who I am excited to work with again."
