Hopefully this money coming in from the sales can be used to invest back into the squad.

I guess Heggem will be the first choice left back now, but we’ll need another left back to push him as he’ll need to adjust to the league. Centre defence seems ok with McNair, Ajayi, Bartley and Taylor. Furlong at right back is a consistent starter so we could get away with promoting Reece Hall from within to cover him.

In midfield, we have Wallace, Diangana, Grant and Fellows for the wings so that could be strong enough as they’re flexible positionally. Add to that Bostock from the under 21’s who has been playing in pre-season. Centre of midfield will be definitely need another defensive minded player as we have Diakhite (6), who like Heggem will need to adapt, Mowatt (8), Molumby (8) and Swift (10). There is also Fenton Heard (10) and Harry Whitwell (8) who have played in pre-season from the under 21’s.

Up front we have Maja, Dike and Cole. I think Maja will come good if he can stay fit. Dike is an injury stricken player so can’t be 100% trusted as a starter once he is back, even though he is good when fit, and Cole should be a good alternative.

I’d say we need a natural left back, defensive midfielder and striker as a minimum, and I’d also look at an alternative to Swift as the 10, unless we play Wallace there and sign another winger instead.

As it stands:

Palmer
Furlong - McNair - Ajayi - Heggem
Molumby - Mowatt
Wallace - Swift - Diangana
Maja

Even the small sums we're raising on transfers and salary savings are nowhere near enough to give Carlos a war chest. The coming season is a coin flip, if our academy lads come good and we push for a play off place great, if not it's going to be a long season.
I'm concerned about the BS that were investing in the academy £1m - when Stoke are pumping £11m into it's academy. Was the £1m a gimmick to try and appease some. Certainly wasn't a statement of intent.
Early days yet but the new owners honeymoon period is up.
Unless reasonable investment is forthcoming I don't see Carlos hanging about - why would he.

I think the issue is the ongoing financial black hole. It appears our losses next year could be upto £20 million, meanwhile we’re haemorrhaging £2 million per month. We shouldn’t forget that Patel put in about £2+ million to sustain the cash flow before he actually owned the club as well as paying off the £5 million loan that Lai took out the club.

I think the owner has rightly prioritised the survival of the club as his #1 aim; to that end, whilst I’m sure he recognises the need to provide funds for CC, the reality is there will not, and cannot, be any significant war chest. It’s disappointing but the financial issues we face are existential.

I don’t think we can underestimate the situation Lai left us in; he was an owner who had precious, if no, interest in the Albion, to be honest he had no interest in football. I honestly feel Patel has a genuine interest in both.

4-1 defeat to league one blues, defeat in all but one of our friendliest, Jason facing a three game ban, lack of signings, lots of departures, EFL finance plan.
Difficult fixtures to start August with. Hope is being stretched to breaking.

Come on you baggies, you can do it, we always do it the hard way.

Extra good news, Wallace having a scan on a troublesome calf, Cole not had a pre season so was not ready for yesterday, McNair has not had a pre season and has a knee problem preventing him training properly.

I think my prediction of seven a side was a bit ambitious, I’ll reassess as five side anyone.

Can we ask for the season to be delayed a bit?

Off to the Olympics this evening but will try to maintain things using mobile, if there are developments (I suspect there will be).
