Defender Max Cleworth has signed a new three-year contract with League One newcomers Wrexham.

Cleworth established himself as a regular in the heart of defence during the second half of last season and played a key role in securing promotion from League Two.

The 21-year-old came through Wrexham’s academy and has made 73 league appearances, having been given his senior debut in August 2021.

“It’s nice to have put that to bed and concentrate on the future now and hopefully a good few more years with this club,” Cleworth told BBC Sport Wales.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: “It’s very important to keep our best young players and Max’s journey has been an enjoyable one for the supporters and staff as well.

“He played in my first ever game as Wrexham manager at Solihull and we’ve seen him grow as a player in the last few years.

“He thoroughly deserves his new contract.”

Cleworth did not make his first League Two appearance until last December but established himself in the side and scored his first goal for the club against Colchester United in April.

It was his second successive league title with the club, having been part of the National League-winning squad a year previously.

“Obviously it was a good back-end to the season personally and a very good one for the club as a whole,” Cleworth added.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge that comes this year. There are some big clubs in the league - Birmingham and Huddersfield – so we know hard it’s going to be.

“But we’ve got the players to compete with that level of football.”

Wrexham have signed former Charlton Athletic captain George Dobson on a three-year deal.

Midfielder Dobson, 26, opted to leave Charlton this summer and had been expected to complete a move to Hungarian club Fehérvár, but he pulled out due to personal circumstances.

Dobson previously played under Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson at Sunderland.

“I’m genuinely delighted. It’s the club in the EFL that everyone wants to come to and when I got the opportunity to join it was exciting," Dobson said.

“When I spoke to the gaffer, and he showed his interest it felt like an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“I can’t wait to meet all the supporters and hopefully carry on the success of the club and have an enjoyable season.”

Wrexham midfielder Tom O'Connor has signed a new three-year deal with the League One club.

The 25-year-old has been part of Wrexham's back-to-back promotions, having made 80 appearances in total since joining from Burton Albion in January 2022.

O'Connor, who played in 32 League Two games last season, only had one year left on his previous contract.

“I’m delighted, it’s been a great two and a half years and I’m really looking forward to seeing where this journey will go," said O'Connor.

“Everyone knows the pull of Wrexham and there’s a real feel-good factor after back-to-back promotions.

“A lot of people would jump at the chance of playing for Wrexham, so I am delighted to sign my new contract.”

O'Connor is among the Wrexham players who already have experience playing in League One, having competed at the same level previously for Gillingham and Burton.

"He’s been excellent since he joined the club, and we are looking forward to working with him again for the seasons ahead," said manager Phil Parkinson.

O'Connor joins Max Cleworth, George Evans, Aaron James, Steven Fletcher, Mark Howard and Harry Dean is signing new contracts with the club.

Wrexham have also brought back goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a permanent deal, as well as signing Leicester City defender Lewis Brunt and Charlton Athletic captain George Dobson.

Wrexham have signed former Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Callum Burton and left-back Seb Revan from Aston Villa.

Burton, 27, who was a free agent after leaving Argyle in May, has signed a deal until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Revan, 21, has joined for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract with an option to extend his stay for an additional year.

Both played have travelled with Wrexham on their three-game North American tour.

Burton has also played for Hull City, Salford City, Chesterfield, and Cambridge United.

“I spoke to the Manager, and he told me about the project, and it definitely was the place I wanted to come and play my football,” Burton said.

Revan came through Villa’s youth system and won the FA Youth Cup the club in 2021.

He made his senior debut against Hibernian in last season’s Europa Conference League having also been on loan at Rotherham United, Grimsby Town and Hereford.

“I want to help take the Club as high up the table as we can and add both goals and assists to my game and also the team’s.”

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said of Burton: “Callum’s profile is perfect for what we need to complement our goalkeeping department.

“We’re all really looking forward to working with him over the next two years.”

On Revan’s signing, Parkinson added: “Seb is a player that stood out for us from his performances in the Championship and he is only going to improve with us,” he said.

“He offers us great versatility because he can play both on the right and the left. He’s a good young player and we’re delighted to have him on board.”

Wrexham have signed Plymouth Argyle defender Dan Scarr on a three year deal.

Scarr made more than 100 appearances in all competitions for Argyle since joining in 2021 and was part of the squad which won the League One title in 2023.

The 29-year-old centre-back made his name in non-league football with Stourbridge.

He also played for Birmingham City and Walsall, as well as a loan spell with Wycombe Wanderers.

Scarr is Wrexham's fifth summer signing following the arrival of Lewis Brunt, George Dobson, Seb Revan and Callum Burton.

Wrexham have also signed goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a permanent deal after he spent last season on loan at the Stok Racecourse.

"It’s probably one of the most talked about clubs outside of the Premier League. It’s a really exciting project that I’m looking forward to getting stuck into," said Scarr.

“It’s a unique club for this day and age, but the main thing that drew me in was that I want to get another promotion, and be a part of history.

“I’ve had good experiences that put me in good stead to go and help the team and help the players around me. I got promoted out of League One with Plymouth, and those sort of experiences I hope will help me have a good season here too."

James McClean has agreed a new contract with Wrexham which ties him to the League One club until the summer of 2026.

Utility player McClean, 35, played 44 games for Wrexham last season after joining from Wigan Athletic, helping the Welsh club win promotion from League Two.

The former Republic of Ireland international joined on an initial one-year deal which was automatically extended for a further 12 months at the end of the last campaign.

However, Wrexham have now moved to ensure McClean will be part of Phil Parkinson's squad for the next two seasons.

“I’m obviously delighted," McClean told the club's website.

"Since I’ve been here, I’ve really enjoyed it and to be given the opportunity to continue that for another two seasons is something I’m really looking forward to.

“It’s been successful so far and hopefully there is more success to come over the next two seasons.”

Former Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City player McClean was one of Wrexham's most-used players last season.

He played primarily at left-wingback, but was also used in more advanced roles at times.

James McClean has agreed a new contract with Wrexham which ties him to the League One club until the summer of 2026.

Utility player McClean, 35, played 44 games for Wrexham last season after joining from Wigan Athletic, helping the Welsh club win promotion from League Two.

Wrexham have signed former Manchester City and Celtic midfielder Josh Adam.

The Scotland Under-21 international joins the League One club following a trial.

Adam, 20, has signed a deal until the end of the season, with an option of a further year.

He said: “It’s really exciting to get it over the line. I’m excited to get started and get going.”

A free agent following his release from the Premier League champions at the end of last season, Adam becomes the ninth new signing at the Racecourse following promotion back to the third-tier.

Manager Phil Parkinson said: “He’s a talented young player and we look forward to working with him.”

Striker Ollie Palmer has signed a new Wrexham deal that keeps him at the League One club until the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

The 32-year-old has made 135 appearances for the club, helping them reach League One after joining them in 2022, when they were in the National League, from AFC Wimbledon.

Palmer's 35 goals in the interim include two so far in 2024-25 and Wrexham have ensured he will stay beyond his current deal, which expires at the end of this season.

"Wrexham has become a home away from home for me and my family and my kids love coming to Wrexham more than anything.

“The fans have been unbelievable with me since I walked through the door, and I’ve met some great people not just at the club but outside of it too."

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said: “I’m pleased for Ollie to get his new deal, he’s earned it. He’s had a good start to the season.

“He’s played a key role in the club’s success and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with him.”

Wrexham have signed free agents Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Matty James on short-term deals until January.

Striker Bodvarsson, capped 64 times by Iceland, provides cover in attack following injuries to Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher.

Bodvarsson, 32, has been without a club since being released by Wrexham's League One rivals Bolton Wanderers in the summer.

Midfielder James, 33, has also been searching for a club after leaving Bristol City last July, having made more than 100 appearances for the Ashton Gate side since joining from Leicester City in 2021.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "With injuries to George Evans, Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher, it was important to bring them in, and we look forward to working with the two of them.”

Wrexham have not announced if the pair will be registered in time to be considered for the squad for Saturday’s league trip to Charlton Athletic.
