Defender Max Dyche has signed a new two-year deal with newly-promoted League One side Northampton Town.

The 20-year-old son of Everton manager Sean Dyche came through the Cobblers' academy and has made 26 first-team appearances for the club.

He featured 22 times for Northampton last season, helping them secure automatic promotion from League Two.

"It's a good place to be and hopefully we can kick on," Dyche told BBC Radio Northampton.

"I just want to keep progressing and building on the games I played last season. My first promotion in my second year, I couldn't ask for more than that really."

The defender was out of contract this summer and said it was a "pretty simple" decision to remain at Sixfields after "having a little look around" at other potential clubs.

"It was pretty straight forward to come back here," he said. "It's my boyhood club, last season ended on a high so I just hope to build and continue where I left off."

Northampton Town have signed defender Patrick Brough on a two-year deal from Barrow.

The 27-year-old turned down the offer of a new deal with the Bluebirds and will move to Sixfields when his existing contract expires on 1 July.

Brough made 46 appearances last season, and 170 in total for Barrow after arriving in the summer of 2019.

Cobblers boss Jon Brady said they beat "strong competition" for the former Falkirk, Salford and Carlisle player.

"He fits the profile of the player we are looking for and has plenty of attributes that appeal to us," Brady added.

"He is a good age, a good size, strong, athletic, he has a lot of experience for a player of his age and we believe he is on an upward trajectory in his career."

Northampton Town have signed former Reading defender Liam Moore on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old has been without a club since his contract with the Royals expired in June 2023.

Northampton manager Jon Brady said the former England Under-21 international had been training with his side.

"He has already fitted in well with the group and he brings with him a good amount of experience and an excellent pedigree," Brady told the club website.

Moore started his career with Leicester City and had loan spells at Bradford, Brentford and Bristol City before joining Reading in 2016 and going on to make 234 appearances.

He was stripped of the Reading captaincy in January 2022 after stating his desire to leave the club and later that month joined Stoke City on loan but only played six games before suffering a serious injury in training.

"We are in a busy schedule at the moment and we wanted to make a defensive addition to the squad," Brady added.

"He has played a lot of football in the Premier League or the Championship and we are pleased to welcome him to the club."

Cobblers boss Jon Brady said the club will now "see what happens" over the summer now the offers have been made.

"We have enjoyed three good seasons in succession and we are looking forward to the challenge of recruiting the players to continue this progress," he said., external

Northampton Town have signed former Colchester United midfielder Cameron McGeehan on a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old had been offered a new deal by Colchester after scoring 10 goals in 39 appearances last season.

He won promotion from League One with Barnsley in 2019 before a spell in Belgian football at KV Oostende.

McGeehan, who won an international cap for Northern Ireland against San Marino last year, is Northampton's fourth signing of the week.

Striker James Wilson and goalkeeper Nik Tzanev joined on one-year deals and Salford forward Callum Morton arrived on a season-long loan.

"Cam is an attacking midfielder who is very competitive, he sets the tempo high and he plays with a lot of energy and power. He works well both on and off the ball and we think he is a really good fit for us," said Northampton boss Jon Brady.

"We believe Cam can be a good signing for us, he played a lot of football last season and he is eager to get started with us."

Northampton will start the new League One season with a trip to Bristol Rovers on 10 August after finishing 10th in 2023-24.
