Euros, here we come

Scotland secured their trip to the Euro 2024 Championships without playing a game. After beating us 2-0 on Thursday, Spain went on to beat Norway 1-0 tonight to top the group on goal difference over Scotland. No matter what happens from now on, Scotland can't be caught and still have a chance, however small, of topping the group. Congratulations to Steve Clarke and his team, who are looking like a side who can perform efficiently and confidently.

Scotland play Georgia away on 16 November, while Spain have Cyprus away on the same date. On 19 November, Scotland host Norway with Spain at home against Georgia.

Fantastic achievement.

We were really unlucky in Spain too. No way would our goal have been chopped off down the other end.

We have a team to be proud of for sure, if we had a natural goalscorer we could really hurt teams.

And we go to Germany in Summer 2024 on the back of two draws against Georgia and Norway, finishing 2nd in Group A behind Spain. The Draw will be made on 2 December in Hamburg and it looks like we will be in Pot 3. Bring it on!

Saturday's over-egged, over-inflated showbizzy Euro 2024 Draw put Scotland in Group A along with hosts Germany, Hungary and Switzerland.

Their first game will be the opening game of the tournament against Germany on 14 June in Bayern. Next come Switzerland in Cologne followed by Hungary on 23 June in Stuttgart. After that we'll hopefully (and not unexpectedly) be in the last 16.

The manager will be confident of progressing out of the group, so will the players, and so will the fans. Germany will have little idea of the passion about to hit them during the Tartan Army Invasion in June.

PS - As for the claim that "sex noises" were heard during the live draw, I don't believe a word of it. More than likely it was Gary Lineker's belly rumbling as he opened his mouth. Rolleyes

When you see it in black and white like that, its amazing how Clarke has managed to get us to the Euros in the first place.

We have got a handle of useful midfielders - mcginn, mcgregor, mctominay and gilmour - 2 good wide defenders in robertson and tierney and not a lot else to be honest.

Calling up Jack (who hasn't kicked a ball since march) and a liverpool youngster says it all really.

The tartan army will have a good time though. They deserve it and they will light up that tournament.

I know I've not been his biggest fan but I feel really sorry for big Lyndon Dykes missing the euros like that.

I don't mean to be insulting but your two best midfielders play in Italy.

Although on the ball McTominay has much to be said for him, positionally he's a nightmare. He's 6'4" but when you need a centre back no one trusts him, and when you're short a centre forward he can't even be a false nine. And in midfield he's anywhere and nowhere. He'll save you with a brilliant block, then be nowhere in sight when the opposition run straight through your middle, and when attacking he'll bang in a cracker on the odd occasion when he's not absent without leave. Whatever you/we think he is, then he isn't ....... Cries out for investigation by William Shatner.

Clarke has done wonders to get you to the Final Stages. Southgate didn't need to do wonders with England. Neither of those facts gives me any confidence in the outcome.

We've finally arrived at the sharp end of the tournament and I'll bet the Bavarian bierkellers are glad to have us. We know how to party, we've the best footie song and we have the best team ethic. With John McGinn and Andy Robertson driving us on, who knows where it might lead us.

There's no blind optimism from me and I have a sobering dose of realism, but let's dream a little and give it our all. Let's party and go out in style, the further down the road the better.
