Harrogate Town have signed Blackburn Rovers forward Tom Bloxham and Southampton defender Derrick Abu on loan until the end of the season.

Bloxham, 18, scored on his senior debut for Rovers in their 8-0 win at the Sulphurites in the EFL Cup at the start of the season.

Abu, 20, came through Chelsea's academy and joined Saints last summer.

Both players could debut for Town, who are one point off the League Two play-off spots, at Stockport on Saturday.

Harrogate Town forward Sam Folarin has signed a new one-year contract with the League Two club.

The 23-year-old started his career at Middlesbrough and made four appearances including two in the Championship towards the end of 2020.

After a loan spell in Scotland with Queen of the South, Folarin joined Harrogate in September 2022 and has scored 12 goals in 62 games, with eight netted this season.

Meanwhile, Joe Mattock heads a list of nine departures from the club at the end of the season.

34-year-old defender Mattock made 33 appearances for the club in two seasons having joined on a free from Rotherham in the summer of 2022.

Lewis Thomas, Jonathan Mitchell, Will Smith, Pete Jameson, George Horbury, Finn O’Boyle, Brad Williams and Emmanuel Ilesanmi have also been released by the club.

Midfielders Stephen Dooley and Levi Sutton have been offered new contracts following the end of the season, meanwhile.

Harrogate Town midfielder Stephen Dooley has signed a new one-year contract.

The 32-year-old made 29 appearances this season after returning to action in October following a year out with a pelvic injury.

"We played some great stuff this season and moving into the new campaign we want to build on that," he told the club website., external

"I missed all of pre-season last year but I want to hit the ground running this year."

Dooley follows forward Sam Folarin in agreeing new terms with the Sulphurites in the last few days.

Levi Sutton has signed sign a new one-year contract with Harrogate Town.

The midfielder was a regular for the Sulphurites last season, playing 39 times after joining the club from Bradford City.

The new deal for the 27-year-old comes a fortnight after Harrogate agreed new contracts for midfielder Stephen Dooley and striker Sam Folarin.

Head of player recruitment Lloyd Kerry told the club website, external: “Since arriving at the club he’s been an important and a reliable player for us, he gives us energy, pace and bite in the middle of the park."

Harrogate Town have signed winger Stephen Duke-McKenna as their first addition for the 2024-25 season.

Duke-McKenna, 23, joins the League Two club after leaving QPR, although he only played 10 times for the west London outfit over five campaigns.

The Guyana international, who was on the books of Everton as a youngster, spent the second half of last season on loan to Sutton United.

"The club has a plan for me and listening to that gives me confidence," Duke-McKenna told the club website., external

Harrogate finished last season, their fourth consecutive campaign in League Two, in 13th place.

Notts County have signed defender Rod McDonald from League Two rivals Harrogate Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 32-year-old, who has played more than 200 games in the English Football League, has signed a two-year contract at Meadow Lane.

McDonald joined Harrogate last summer and previously won promotion from League Two with Coventry and Northampton. He has also had spells at Crewe, Carlisle and AFC Wimbledon.

“Rod, with his proven track record as a strong EFL defender, adds fantastic depth to our back line," said Notts County director Richard Montague, external, who oversees the club's recruitment.

“He has won two promotions from this division and was named Crewe’s player of the season in 2022-23, so we have every confidence he’s going to be a brilliant addition to the squad.”

Harrogate Town have signed defender Zico Asare from Maidenhead United for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old joined National League side Maidenhead in 2022, since making 88 appearances for the club in all competitions.

He is Harrogate's second summer signing after winger Stephen Duke-McKenna.

"Zico is athletic, powerful and is hungry for an opportunity in the Football League - he has the profile we're looking for in a full-back and he'll add competition for places," Harrogate's head of player recruitment Lloyd Kerry told the club's website, external.

"He's explosive, can get away from his man and competes well so we're looking forward to seeing what he can do."

Harrogate have not disclosed the length of Asare's contract.

Harrogate Town have signed former Sunderland winger Ellis Taylor on a two-year deal.

The 21-year-old scored as a trialist in a friendly against Huddersfield Town last weekend.

Taylor previously spent time on loan with Hartlepool United and is Harrogate's third signing of the summer.

“He’s an exciting player, can play off both feet, likes to make things happen and it feels like a good fit for us," said head of recruitment Lloyd Kerry.

“He impressed us against Huddersfield, scored his goal and got in great areas, when he got the ball he tried to make things happen, he’s very versatile he can play left wing, right wing and at wing-back so we’re delighted to have him here.”

Harrogate Town have signed forward Eno Nto on a month-to-month contract after a successful trial.

The 22-year-old came through Derby County's academy before going to the United States to play for the University of Notre Dame.

He could make his senior debut in Tuesday's EFL Trophy game against Blackpool.

"I like the look of him. He's professional, determined and has got better and better throughout his trial," boss Simon Weaver told the club website.
