Cheltenham have brought in two promising youngsters from higher division sides on loan deals.

The League One Robins have signed 20-year-old Arsenal forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Birmingham right back Josh Williams, also 20.

Butler-Oyedeji has twice been on the bench for Arsenal's first-team and finished last season on loan at Accrington.

Williams has made six starts for the Blues in the Championship.

Butler-Oyedeji - who joins on a season-long deal - scored four goals for the Gunners under-21s in the EFL Trophy last season and was an unused substitute in both the Premier League and FA Cup.

He told the club website: "I am looking forward to the challenge. I was with Accrington last season - coming from Arsenal it was a big culture shock, but one that I think every player needs.

"I'm fast with an eye for goal and like to make things happen so hopefully I can do that for Cheltenham."

Williams' loan is only until January as Cheltenham went into the market after an injury to loan signing from Fulham, Luciano D'Auria-Henry.

They have also loaned Oli Hammond from Nottingham Forest, Owen Bevan from Bournemouth, and Brighton's Cameron Peupion.

Williams told the club website: "I'm an attacking full back. Hopefully I can create some goals and maybe score some goals as well."

Cheltenham Town have signed free-agent midfielder Tom Pett.

The 31-year-old former Port Vale player has agreed an initial short term deal until January to link up with former Vale boss Darrell Clarke at Town.

Pett, who played more than 150 games for Stevenage in two spells, has also spent time at Lincoln City before moving to Port Vale in 2021.

He is the first player to be signed by Clarke since he took over from Wade Elliott as manager in September.

The Robins are second-from-bottom of League One having won just twice all season and scored just six times in 15 league games.

"I've been in touch with the gaffer over the last couple of weeks and I'm really happy to get it over the line," Pett told the club website.

"I was really keen to work for a manager that I trust and he knows what I'm all about, so it was a win-win.

"You'll run through brick walls for him, you can see the lads doing that now. That's what I want to do for him and obviously for Cheltenham."

Cheltenham Town midfielder Tom Pett has signed a contract extension.

The 32-year-old will stay until the end of the season, having joined in November on a short-term deal.

He has gone on to play nine games in all competitions for the Robins, who are second-bottom of League One after failing to win a game until 21 October.

"I've really enjoyed my time here since I joined a couple of months ago, so I'm really happy to have signed a new contract," Pett told the club website.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge that we've got ahead and I firmly believe we have got what it takes to stay in this league."

Cheltenham Town have signed free agent midfielder Josh Harrop on a deal until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old underwent a successful trial having been without a club since leaving Northampton after last season.

He came through the ranks at Manchester United and in 2017 scored against Crystal Palace in his only Premier League appearance.

Harrop told the club website: "I'm really delighted to be here, it's a great opportunity for me."

After leaving Manchester United Harrop spent five years at Preston, making 83 Championship appearances, and had loan spells in League One with Ipswich and Fleetwood in the past two seasons.

Darrell Clarke's first January signing added: "I've been working really hard since I've been a free agent and I've been able to show that to the gaffer and now he's given me that opportunity to come in and play until the end of the season. I like to play through the middle and try to score goals and pop up with assists."

Cheltenham Town have signed midfielder Liam Kinsella from Swindon Town on an 18-month contract until summer 2025.

The 27-year-old joined Swindon last summer and has made 27 appearances for the team in all competitions.

Town have also completed the signing of Hull defender Andy Smith on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has played 67 games for Grimsby on loan across the past two seasons.

Smith told the club website: "Ever since I knew there was interest from the club, I was really excited by it and I wanted to come here straight away."

Kinsella began his career at Walsall, where he spent a number of years working under Cheltenham manager Darrell Clarke.

"He's a real consistent performer. Whether that's with his performance or his energy levels," Clarke said.

"He gives us another option in the middle of the park and with a lot of games to fit in - everyone is going to be needed and Liam adds that bit more strength in depth."

The 22-year-old has scored 10 times so far this campaign.

The quartet take the number of Cheltenham signings in this transfer window to seven.

Cheltenham Town have announced that Liam Sercombe, Luke Southwood and Sean Long will leave the club this summer.

The Robins offered the trio new contracts but all three rejected the deals proposed by the club, who were relegated from League One at the end of the season.

Midfielder Sercombe, 34, was the Robins' top goalscorer in 2023-24, netting 11 times as well as providing two assists in 45 league appearances.

Goalkeeper Southwood arrived on loan from Reading in the summer of 2022, keeping 16 clean sheets in his opening campaign.

Last season, after turning his move into a permanent one, the 26-year-old kept 10 shut-outs in 48 appearances across all competitions.

Defender Long, 29, is one of Cheltenham's longest-serving players and exits after six years with the Robins.

Both Sercombe and Long were part of the Cheltenham team that won the League Two title in the 2020-21 season.
