Blackpool have signed midfielder Albie Morgan on a three-year deal with the option of a further 12 months following his release by Charlton Athletic

The 23-year-old came through the Addicks' academy and went on to make 146 first-team appearances.

"I'm delighted to be here and looking forward to the fresh start and new chapter in my career," he said.

"Hopefully I can hit the ground running quickly and contribute as much as possible for a successful season."

Blackpool have signed defender Matthew Pennington from Shrewsbury Town on a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

The 28-year-old joined the Shrews from Everton in 2021 after a loan spell and made 113 appearances in total.

He was offered a new contract by the Shropshire club but has opted instead for a move to the north west.

"This seems like a brilliant place to play football, and I can't wait to get started," Pennington said.

"I know a few of the lads here such as Callum Connolly and Shayne Lavery and I'm excited to see them again."

Blackpool have signed goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell from National League side Rochdale on a one-year deal.

The 34-year-old has previously played for Chesterfield, Walsall, Wigan, Bristol City and Bradford and has extensive experience in the EFL.

He made 44 appearances for Dale last season as the club were relegated to the National League.

"I've had some good and bad times in football, and I feel those experiences have shaped me as a player," he said.

"I can't wait to get the gloves back on after having a bit of down time over the summer. Nothing beats being back out on the grass, so I'm looking forward to joining the group and getting started."

O'Donnell is the club's second signing in as many days after Shrewsbury defender Matthew Pennington joined on a two-year deal.

Blackpool have signed midfielder Ollie Norburn from Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old played 56 games in two seasons with Posh, having joined them from Shrewsbury Town.

He is Blackpool's fourth summer signing following Albie Morgan, Matthew Pennington and Richard O'Donnell.

He said: "I like to class myself as a leader and I've got a big desire to do well here and play a part in getting this club back where it should be."

Blackpool were relegated from the Championship last season after finishing 23rd in the table, having won only 11 of their 46 games.

They start the new League One campaign with a home game against Burton Albion on 5 August.

"There has been no secret of our desire to bring Ollie to Blackpool for a while now," said head coach Neil Critchley.

"He has proven himself a key figure at different clubs over a number of years. He has immense leadership qualities, undoubted ability and is someone who we believe our supporters will love watching."

Swansea City have signed striker Jerry Yates from Blackpool, with forward Kyle Joseph moving in the opposite direction in another permanent deal.

Yates joins the Championship side on a three-year deal, for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £2.5m.

The 26-year-old scored 15 goals last season, but that was not enough to save Blackpool from relegation to League One.

"I am really excited to be here," said Yates.

"I hope I can adapt very quickly because I am really looking forward to getting down to work.

"I spoke to a lot of people before coming here, and I wanted to make sure I had the right advice.

"I spoke to someone who has close ties to the club, who played for Swansea and lived in Swansea in Ashley Williams.

"Obviously he gave me some great advice and, also, I have not enjoyed having to face Swansea over these last two seasons. So if you can't beat them, join them."

Yates becomes new Swansea head coach Michael Duff's third signing of the summer, following forward Josh Ginnelly and right-back Josh Key.

Swansea's move for Yates will cast further doubt over the future of Joel Piroe, the Welsh club's top scorer in the last two seasons.

Piroe only has a year to run on his contract and is believed to be attracting interest from the likes of Leicester City and Leeds United.

Yates had been linked with a number of Championship clubs following Blackpool's relegation.

He has scored 46 goals in 139 appearances since joining Blackpool from Rotherham United in 2020, including one in the shock FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest last season.

Yates spent time as a youngster with hometown club Doncaster Rovers before joining the Millers.

He had loan spells at Harrogate Town, Carlisle United and Swindon Town prior to his move to Blackpool.

"I like to think I am an honest player, I am hard working, I will always give 110%," said Yates.

"For me, that is the minimum I expect of myself, even if I am not having the best of games or a tough run, I will never stop working hard for the team.

"You have to work hard with the ball and without; there are horrible sides of the game you have to be prepared to do if you want to be successful.

"It's about that togetherness within the group, you always have to believe in yourselves. There is an awful lot of talent here, that goes without saying, but I think you need a little bit more than talent.

"You have got to be able to dig deep when that is needed of you, and hopefully we will have that this year.

"You have to expect that there is pressure that comes with the job. Like I say, the talent I have seen at Swansea over these last two seasons has been frightening, and I am looking forward to trying to help the team to achieve our goals."

Joseph 'excited by Blackpool project'
Joseph joins Blackpool for an undisclosed fee having spent last season on loan at Oxford United, where he scored 10 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions.

The 21-year-old has represented Scotland at under-18, under-19 and under-21 level.

"This is a move I was really keen on getting done and I'm so pleased to be here," Joseph said of his move to Blackpool.

"The head coach [Neil Critchley] made it clear to me how much he wanted me to come here. With such an exciting project here at the club as well, it feels like a really good fit.

"I want to progress further and help this club succeed, so I can't wait to get started."

Blackpool have been fined £35,000 after Wigan's James McClean was subjected to sectarian abuse during the Championship match between the two clubs in April.

The Football Association charged Blackpool with failing to ensure their fans behaved in an orderly fashion during the game at Bloomfield Road.

The club accepted the charge and an independent regulatory commission imposed the fine.

Both the Tangerines and Latics were relegated to League One last season.

In a statement, Blackpool said: "The club has a zero-tolerance policy towards discriminatory abuse of all kinds and fully condemns the conduct of any supporters who subject others to any form of abuse.

"Those responsible may be committing a criminal offence and moving forward will, if identified, be ejected and banned.

"As a result of the incident which took place in the early stages of this particular fixture, the club has been found guilty of misconduct under FA rules.

"As well as a £35,000 fine, an action plan has now been imposed to deter a recurrence of any further misconduct.

"Should an incident such as this happen again, further implications could be imposed such as increased financial sanctions or the possibility of fixtures taking place behind closed doors.

"Blackpool Football Club will treat this matter with the utmost severity and intends to develop existing initiatives to become a more inclusive and proactive club, both at home and away fixtures."

Republic of Ireland international McClean, 34, has been targeted by opposing fans since 2012, when he first declined to have a poppy embroidered on his Sunderland shirt out of support for his home city of Derry, the scene of the Bloody Sunday shootings in 1972.

Thirteen people were killed when British soldiers shot civilian protestors in the city. A 14th person died later.

McClean has also previously said he is upset about the impact the abuse has on his wife and three young children, who watch his matches either on television or in the stands.

In 2020, McClean was fined two weeks' wages by another of his former clubs, Stoke City, for an inappropriate Instagram post in which he was pictured wearing a balaclava in front of two children, with the caption "Today's school lesson - History" along with a laughing emoji.

He later apologised and agreed to delete his Instagram account.

McClean has been critical of the FA and English Football League for a lack of action over the sectarian abuse aimed at him.

Blackpool have appointed former Swansea City chief executive Julian Winter as their new CEO, a month after he left the Swans.

The 57-year-old joins the Seasiders having previously held senior roles with Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town and Watford.

He left the Swans in June having spent three years with the Championship club.

"I am thoroughly excited for the challenge that lies ahead," Winter told the Blackpool club website.

"Having spoken with [owner] Simon Sadler several times over recent weeks, it was evident just how passionate he is about the football club and town, and that is something I am hoping we can all build upon.

"I look forward to meeting all of the staff over the next few weeks and helping lead the club to a bright and successful future."

Winter's exit from Swansea came after Andy Coleman was named as their chairman and following head coach Russell Martin's departure to Southampton.

He was appointed by the Swans in September 2020 after Trevor Birch left his role as the Welsh club's chairman to join Tottenham Hotspur as director of football operations.

"Julian is a vastly experienced professional and I am delighted to welcome him to the club as chief executive," Sadler added.

"Having worked within football for many years, he has the knowledge and expertise that is required to help drive the club forwards as we look to progress both on and off the field."

Blackpool have signed midfielder Jensen Weir from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old began his career with Wigan Athletic and made his senior debut for the club at the age of 15, making him their youngest ever player.

He went on to join the Seagulls in 2020 and spent last season on loan at Morecambe, scoring 11 goals.

"Having spoken to the head coach here I can tell we are aligned in how we like football to be played," he said.

"I'm hoping I can perform and contribute to the team as much as possible this season, and we can have a successful campaign."

Blackpool have signed midfielder Tashan Oakley-Boothe after a successful trial.

The 23-year-old was a free agent after being released by Stoke City at the end of his contract in June.

He spent last season on loan in League One with Lincoln City and made 25 appearances for the Imps.

"He impressed us all with his ability and attitude during pre-season and we look forward to adding him to our squad," boss Neil Critchley told the club website.

Blackpool have signed striker Jordan Rhodes on a season-long loan from Championship side Huddersfield Town.

The 33-year-old had played just one EFL Cup tie so far this season for the Terriers, having scored six goals in 35 games last season.

Scotland international Rhodes has 225 goals in 586 career matches since his senior debut for Ipswich.

"I'm looking forward to working with this bunch of players and the manager," Rhodes said.

"It's a club that is going to be right up there at the top end of the division at the end of the season and I'm looking forward to hopefully playing a part on that journey throughout the season."

Neil Critchley's side are yet to concede a goal this season with a miserly defence, yet have also only scored two goals in League One on the back of three goalless draws.

The son of ex-Oldham goalkeeper Andy Rhodes, Jordan scored 84 goals in 169 games for Lancashire rivals Blackburn earlier in his career, and also surpassed 100 games for Sheffield Wednesday among his spells.
