Bolton Wanderers have offered deals to out-of-contract striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and midfielder Josh Sheehan, and triggered a year's extension for defender MJ Williams.

Injury ended the season early for Bodvarsson, 31, after eight goals in 27 games since his move from Millwall.

Sheehan, 28, played 34 games in helping Wanderers to the League One play-offs.

Williams, 27, made his 100th Bolton appearance during the past season with 35 games in total for Ian Evatt's side.

Accruing that number of matches in the season enabled Bolton to exercise their contract extension for the former Liverpool, Rochdale and Blackpool player.

Out-of-contract goalkeeper Joel Dixon, midfielders Kieran Lee and Lloyd Isgrove and forward Elias Kachunga will leave the Trotters on the expiry of their deals.

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Josh Sheehan has signed a new two-year deal to remain with the League One club until the end of the 2024-25 season.

The 28-year-old Welshman joined from Newport County in the summer of 2021 and has made 54 appearances.

Earlier in 2023, Sheehan started for Bolton as they defeated Plymouth in the Papa Johns Trophy final at Wembley.

"As soon as the club mentioned it, we got to work on agreeing a deal and getting it over the line," he said.

"I feel like I'm coming into my peak years - at a good age, experience, and the amount of games I've had. And I feel the way we play can get the best out of me and I'm hoping I show that in the next couple of years.

"Unfortunately, things didn't go our way [in the play-offs] but there is going to be fire in our bellies going into next season, making sure we're on the right end of the promotion chase."

Iceland international striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has signed a one-year contract extension with Bolton Wanderers to run to the summer of 2024.

The 31-year-old scored eight goals in 27 games for League One side Bolton before his season was cut short by an ankle injury in January.

Bodvarsson joined from Millwall in 2022 on a free transfer and has scored 83 goals in 400 career club games.

"It's a club that I'm very proud to be a part of," Bodvarsson said.

"My family and I feel like we're at home here, the fans and the people of the community are brilliant. The direction and the ambition of the club is also positive. I want to be a part of it."

Bolton also offered a contract to Josh Sheehan, who had already committed to the club before Bodvarsson's terms were settled.

Bolton Wanderers have signed goalkeeper Nathan Baxter on a two-year deal following his release by Premier League side Chelsea.

The 24-year-old left the Blues at the end of last season having never made a first-team appearance for the club.

He has had extensive loan experience and spent most of the past two seasons with Hull City, making 30 appearances.

"I'm delighted to be here. After seven years of loans, this is my first permanent move", he said.

"This is the right time for me. I'm at a good age and it will be good to feel like I'm here for the long run and not just for a loan."

Baxter made 12 Championship appearances for Hull last season.

Bolton Wanderers have signed goalkeeper Joel Coleman on a two-year deal.

The 27-year-old spent the majority of last season with Ipswich Town but did not make an appearance for the Blues as they won promotion to the Championship.

Coleman, who was born in Bolton, is the second free-agent keeper to join the Trotters this week after Nathan Baxter signed on Monday.

"To be able to represent Bolton is massive for me and a dream come true," he told the club website.

Bolton Wanderers have signed winger Josh Dacres-Cogley on a two-year deal following the end of his contract with Tranmere Rovers.

The 27-year-old spent the past two seasons with Rovers, playing in all but one league fixture in that time.

Dacres-Cogley came through Birmingham City's academy and went on to make nine league appearances for Blues.

"When Bolton come to you, you can't turn them down because of the size of the club and the history", he said.

"I'm really excited to be here. Bolton is such a massive club, and I can't wait to get started now.

"You can sense the energy and you can see that this is a club moving forward. I wanted to be a part of that."

Bolton Wanderers have re-signed forward Dan Nlundulu from Southampton on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the Trotters, scoring once in 15 games.

Nlundulu was with the Saints for a decade, coming through the club's academy and going on to make 16 first-team appearances for them.

"I enjoyed my loan spell and I feel at home here," Nlundulu told Bolton's website.

"We initially had the conversation in the January transfer window and there was only one place I wanted to go and that was here. I'm happy that it is all done now."

Nlundulu featured in both legs of Bolton's play-off semi-final against Barnsley last season and said he has "unfinished business" with the club after failing to help them to promotion.

"There is healthy competition within the squad, so we all need to work together to get the club where it needs to be," he added.

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Kyle Dempsey has signed a three-year deal to remain with the League One club until the end of the 2025-26 season.

The 27-year-old joined from Gillingham in January 2022 and has made 58 appearances for Wanderers.

"The gaffer spoke to me about how well I've done this year and he wanted to reward me, so I'm happy," he said.

"I had a frustrating start, but in the last six months I've been able to show the real me and the player I can be."

Dempsey scored the first goal of Bolton's 4-0 demolition of Plymouth Argyle at Wembley in April's Papa Johns Trophy final.

He made 47 appearances last season, helping the club to the League One play-offs where they were eventually defeated by Barnsley.

Bolton Wanderers vice-captain Gethin Jones has signed a new contract to remain with the club until the end of the 2024-25 season.

The 27-year-old joined the Trotters in 2020 after leaving Carlisle and has since played 117 games for Wanderers.

During his time with the club, he has won promotion from League Two and last season's Papa John's Trophy.

"The club has done so much for myself and family and helped me so much in my football," he told the club website.

"I have played a lot of games since I've been here and I just want to kick on even more and help the team and the staff and give everything back to the football club, so I will be working hard in this pre-season to get going."

Jones sustained a hamstring injury in the final game of the regular season last term, ruling him out of their League One play-off campaign.

But he has since underdone an operation and will return to full training during their pre-season camp in Portugal this week.

"I was devastated that the club didn't get what we wanted to achieve last season and get that promotion, and I got myself a little injury towards the end," he added.

"I've worked hard this off-season and the gaffer spoke to me and said they wanted to offer me a new deal. That was pretty smooth to get that sorted and I'm glad it's all done."

Bolton Wanderers have signed defender Will Forrester from fellow League One side Port Vale for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old, who came through Stoke City's academy before joining Vale in 2022, joins Wanderers on a three-year contract ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Forrester made 35 League One appearances for Vale last season and scored two goals.

"I really enjoyed my time at Port Vale and I feel like a developed a hell of lot there," Forrester said.

"The reason I went to Port Vale was to play football and now this move has come to light and hopefully I can go on and play even more in time.

"When this opportunity came to light it was one I couldn't turn down. Bolton is a huge club and I want to be part of this club and hopefully get it back to where it belongs."
