It’s interesting that given the massive NHS crisis, the UK's shocking economic performance, national strikes, ongoing rampant corruption and a massive cost of living crisis what really seems to be getting on the tories goat is “civil servants” & “small boats”.

The latter of course could have been much easily managed as part of the EU and with safe routes provided. It's deeply weird to me, but the press are v happy to feed off it.

We can, and by international law, are obliged to provide safe routes, but ever since the Tories came up with a fictitious immigration number they dreamt up when Cameron was in charge, they've removed the safe routes and declared them illegal. Providing legal routes again would burst the bubble of those organising the small boats on the French Coast. They know it but won't do it because it appeals to the Tory press who feed the raw meat to their little Englander readership, stoking up hate and division.

Divide and rule - working successfully as a means of keeping the population under your control since the Roman's turned up (and likely long before).

When that failed - build a wall.

A little note from history, when a General Election was due .....

If the Tories are elected on Thursday, I warn you.

I warn you that you will have pain–when healing and relief depend upon payment.

I warn you that you will have ignorance–when talents are untended and wits are wasted, when learning is a privilege and not a right.

I warn you that you will have poverty–when pensions slip and benefits are whittled away by a government that won’t pay in an economy that can’t pay.

I warn you that you will be cold–when fuel charges are used as a tax system that the rich don’t notice and the poor can’t afford.

I warn you that you must not expect work–when many cannot spend, more will not be able to earn. When they don’t earn, they don’t spend. When they don’t spend, work dies.

I warn you not to go into the streets alone after dark or into the streets in large crowds of protest in the light.

I warn you that you will be quiet–when the curfew of fear and the gibbet of unemployment make you obedient.

I warn you that you will have defence of a sort–with a risk and at a price that passes all understanding.

I warn you that you will be home-bound–when fares and transport bills kill leisure and lock you up.

I warn you that you will borrow less–when credit, loans, mortgages and easy payments are refused to people on your melting income.

If the Tories win on Thursday–

– I warn you not to be ordinary

– I warn you not to be young

– I warn you not to fall ill

– I warn you not to get old.

Sound familiar?

So if I tell you that was Neil Kinnock, about 40 years ago, why are you (not) surprised nothing much has changed about the Tory party in the last 40 years?

to quote him correctly ...

If the Tories are elected on Thursday, I warn you.

was

If Margaret Thatcher is re-elected as prime minister on Thursday, I warn you.

If the Tories win on Thursday–

was

If Margaret Thatcher wins on Thursday-

She did, did anything change in the last 40 years to say Kinnock was wrong?

"Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" - as they say whilst pushing yet more inflatables full of desperate people off the beaches of France and into "The Sleeve" that our racist Government label as illegal invaders, whilst too many of them forget how they got here in the first place.[/b]

What a terrible period of devastation and loss of life in Turkey-Syria added to the depressing state of political affairs (and consequent effects) in this country plus the Ukrainian war, of course. Many folk, incl myself, must have been truly moved to tears at the sight of that little girl being lifted from the rubble of the earthquake. We must have all been relieved that our governments, like so many others, were rushing to send aid and assistance asap (take note of the DEC appeal on dec.org.uk). I wonder, though, how many at that point stopped to realise that, if these same people were to arrive next week on a small boat from across The English channel, they could be prevented from landing, turned back, possibly to drown, or sent straight back to the disaster area or to Rwanda? Those people currently arriving that way are, in many cases, suffering exactly the same as those poor people in Turkey and Syria, though from war, persecution or climate disaster instead of the extreme effects of an earthquake. It seems that Tory government humanity "kicks in" only when there is good publicity in it!! Rolleyes

Not like the racist in charge of the Home Office to over-egg the immigration threat is it?
I mean at one time half of Turkey and a huge chunk of the Romanian population wanted to move in was a justification for Brexit.

Braverman claims 100m people could qualify for asylum without law change

Um, we have less than any large country in Europe turning up asking for asylum from countries (or their neighbours) that we generally supply with live ammunition to bomb these folk out of house and home, and despite legal requirements to provide them with safe and legal routes to apply for asylum, we don't. We class them all as illegal immigrants and feed this crap to the gammons that read the Tory press and repeat it a gospel.

We are short of wagon drivers, farmers, nurses, doctors and just about every other profession you can mention. Are you seriously telling me none of these can fill any of those positions? Then they pay Tax and National Insurance that is worth far more to the country than the £100/night hotel room fees we are paying to not let these families work? Hotels that are mainly owned by tw@ts with offshore banking facilities and pay fook-hall tax on their earnings let alone their profits?

Get these racist bastards out of our government at the earliest opportunity and get our country back towards the top of being one of the nicest and best places to live and work in the world, rather than being in the sewer that these sewer rat scum have dragged us into.

Whilst i agree with your sentiments 100%, that demographic you outline there are the predominant force come election time. Which is why even the labour party don't deviate much from the tory politic these days.

The gig is fucked. I honestly believe we will see a major breakdown across society in the UK in the coming years, including sectors spanning health and social care to environment and agriculture. Been saying for years on here how money is being heisted from the public purse then syphoned off shore by the tories and their chums....its only going to accelerate now.

The other thing of course is that the press have been hammering this message home now for years, and just like with brexit where the tories successfully blamed the nations woes on those pesky europeans , it's shaping up for the same shit to happen again.

They have literally just made seeking asylum illegal FFS

I notice Gary Lineker being vilified for comparing the f####d up poisonous narrative re immigrants (as previously described) to the same shit/propaganda practised in 1930s Germany and the Third Reich. Has he been reading my threads re this topic lol Laugh And the usual fascist ploy is to attack Gaz because they don't like his accurate criticism of their fascist tactics and behaviour and questioning his lack of impartiality as a BBC pundit!!!??? F####### Tory/RW hypocrisy in full view!! Thumb down A cute populist "smokescreen" to try and deflect attention from their poisonous politic btw!

He works for their poisoned mouthpiece and as one of the highest paid employees should really toe the party line. Criticism of them is an affront to what they call free speech and labelling them as exactly what they are should be a sackable offence, according to the new Tory Party Vice-Chairman who suggests he should stick to reading out football scores and selling crisps.

Well quite, but when are you planning to become a serious Politician?

Another sinister addition to this topic was a BBC moron on BBC Newsnight clearly reading some kinda set script by adding the fact that the Brit Jewish Community were somehow appalled by these comments????? What utter twaddle!!!! Thumb down Lineker never mentioned Jews or anything to do with Jews!!!!! This is real nasty, fascist politics being played out by these Tory-Brexit bastards who are really poisoning the whole political landscape and culture in England, definitely creating a culture war of unimaginable significance. I concur with Jim re there being a major threat to the moral fabric of society in this country although I still perceive that up here in Scotland, that threat has been suppressed even though these bastards have tried hard to cross our borders and infect our pluralist society/culture with their toxic shit. There are lots n lots of Scots well aware of this threat and it has been debated and highlighted often enough with warnings by many politically savvy folk who have been observing this shit for a long time.
