I'VE ALWAYS SUPPORTED ANNAN - PREVIOUSLY GRETNA - AS I WAS MARRIED THERE SO LONG AGO.
THE HOTEL I BELIEVE IS NO LONGER THERE AT ANNAN, IT HAD A PUB ACROSS A COURTYARD AND SURROUNDED BY FIELDS,

Remember seeing a feature on the TV last year about a group of mates from Lincolnshire who travel to Annan Athletic each year to watch the Galabankies as that is where their organiser had his stag do a few years ago and whilst on it they went to a game and have been returning ever since.

Was at Galabank last year but don't know much about its history. Was the hotel in the town or by the ground? The Central closed in the town 4 or 5 years ago and then had one of those "mystery" fires!!

If you get back there the Annan distillery tour is brilliant and is close to Galabank.

For the first few years ( around the 40's and 50's ) they played in English Leagues usually around the Carlisle area .

 Good reply... The hotel name escapes me, new couple who were marvellous, broke the bed, and often had our hotel meal in the pub by the open fire.  Great boozer.
 Fields  all around, a lovely bridge and lake.
 Not by the ground, a mile out of town.

My granny used to live near there (towards dumfries), so i spent a bit of time down that area when i was a boy. Fond memories of lots of great walks, bike rides and fishing trips.

Caerlaverock castle is worth a look, as is the nature reserve. Also cant remember the name but theres an iron age hill fort near by too with great views, and Bruces cave where he hid from the english during the wars of independence.

If you are into cycling there are some great trails along the solway firth. Annan itself is a lovely wee town, don't know much about the football team though.

Gretna went bust soon after their main benefactor died ended up in the Scots Premier had to play at Motherwell

Seems that ever since i said i supported them, they've done well.  In fact in true tradition i'll buy 15 players a pint.

Also at at a stretch i'll add ice to the water.
