Burton Albion have re-signed striker Sam Winnall on a deal that runs until the end of the season.
The 31-year-old moves to Burton as a free agent, having been released by Oxford United in the summer.
Winnall, who scored seven goals in 19 games during a loan stint with the Brewers in 2011, has spent six weeks training with the club and featured for them in pre-season games.
"I was really thankful to the club for the opportunity to come in," he said.
"I had a couple of other options on the table, but the fact that the club showed a real interest, and Dino [new Burton manager Dino Maamria] showed me how much he really wanted me to be here, made it an easy decision."
Winnall has featured for eight clubs in the 11 years since his spell at Burton on loan from Wolves.
He was instrumental in helping Barnsley win promotion to the Championship in 2016, top scoring for the Tykes in League One with 24 goals.
The forward then went on to join Sheffield Wednesday, had a loan spell with Burton's near neighbours Derby County and spent the past two seasons with League One rivals Oxford.
Winnall is the first signing made my Maamria since he took over at the Pirelli Stadium following Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's resignation on Monday.
"He's got really good pedigree, but he's hungry. He wants to prove he can still play at this level - and I like his hunger and desire, and his attitude to helping the team," Maamria told the club website.

Burton have signed winger Mustapha Carayol on a short-term contract.
Carayol, 34, was without a club having left Gillingham this summer, and as a free agent was able to be signed outside of the transfer window.
His career began at MK Dons and has included spells at Ipswich, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough as well as stints on loan at Leeds and Brighton.
"I'm happy to have the opportunity to be back playing football," he told Burton's website.
"We've got some really good, talented footballers and I know a few of them from playing against them."

Burton Albion have signed former Leeds United forward Bobby Kamwa on a short-term contract.
The 22-year-old was released by Leeds at the end of last season without playing a senior game.
But he did make eight substitute appearances during a loan spell at Scottish club Dunfermline last term.
"He's got big potential, he plays with energy, he's strong and can play in different positions as well," Burton boss Dino Maamria told BBC Radio Derby.
"Hopefully, in January we'll try and keep him for the longer term."
Kamwa, who has trained with the Brewers for several weeks, will be available for their League One game at home to Fleetwood Town on Tuesday, subject to FA approval.

League One strugglers Burton Albion have agreed a deal to sign Sheffield United goalkeeper Jordan Amissah on loan for the rest of the season.
The German, 21, had spells with Bundesliga sides Schalke and Borussia Dortmund before joining the Blades in 2018.
He made his first-team debut as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw at Luton in the Championship in August.
Amissah is available for Saturday's FA Cup third round tie at Grimsby.
He is the Brewers' first signing of the transfer window, with the club still hoping to finalise a new deal for defender Adrian Mariappa and make a move for Sheffield United striker William Osula.

Burton Albion have signed midfielder Mark Helm from Championship club Burnley for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old, who came through Manchester United's youth ranks, failed to make a first-team appearance during his 18 months with the Clarets.
Burton boss Dino Maamria said he had been impressed by Helm while watching him with Burnley's under-23 side.
"He will play now for sure and help us pick up points, but he's also a long-term project for us," Maamria said.
Maamria also dismissed reports that Wigan Athletic had met a release clause to sign Victor Adeboyejo, but confirmed a clause in the forward's contract does exist.
The 25-year-old former Barnsley striker has scored 13 goals in 33 games since joining the Brewers as a free agent in the summer.
"I've told him he should stay until the end of the season because I am certain he will score over 20 goals," Maamria told BBC Radio Derby.
"When he does score that many, in the summer, the world is his oyster.
"If someone triggers a release clause overnight, then it is obviously out of our hands. We can't control that, Victor is a top lad and if he goes, he will do so with my blessing.
"If he stays, it's brilliant for me and for all of us."

Burton Albion have signed West Bromwich Albion defender Zac Ashworth on loan for the rest of the season.
A left-back who can also play further forward, Ashworth has been with the Baggies since the age of 10.
The 20-year-old made his debut in an FA Cup tie with Brighton last January and played two Championship games towards the end of last season.
"As soon as I knew Burton were interested, I was really keen to get it over the line," Ashworth said.
Ashworth has played three games in cup competitions for West Brom this season and is also a Wales Under-21 international.
"Zac is a player we've monitored for a while," Burton boss Dino Maamria told the club website.
"He can cover the left-back and left-wing back positions and he's hungry for first-team football. He's played at Championship level and I'm sure he'll add quality to the left-hand side of the pitch for us."

Burton Albion have signed defender Jasper Moon on loan from fellow League One side Barnsley for the rest of the season.
The 22-year-old made his Tykes debut in a Championship game against Rotherham in December 2020.
He has made 34 appearances for the club in total, but has only played in the EFL Trophy this season.
Meanwhile, 36-year-old defender Adrian Mariappa has left the Brewers at the end of his short-term deal.
"Mapps has been terrific both on and off the pitch since coming in. He's helped us in every way possible during his time here," said boss Dino Maamria.

Burton Albion have signed striker Dale Taylor from Premier League club Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old, who came through Forest's youth ranks, made his senior debut coming off the bench in their 3-0 Carabao Cup win at Grimsby Town earlier this season.
"We watched him a lot at Forest Under-23's and he always stood out - he fits the way we like to play," Brewers boss Dino Maamria told the club website.
"We believe he can add that threat going forward and can be a good addition for us."
Taylor made his senior debut for Northern Ireland in a World Cup qualifier in 2021.
"It's going to be tough and senior football will be different but hopefully I can keep up the scoring this season," he said.
"Playing in League One is a great opportunity to gain experience of men's football and I can't wait to get started."
Burton Albion are in the League One relegation zone and travel to Lincoln City on Saturday.

The 34-year-old ex-Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough forward joined Burton on a short-term deal in September after leaving Gillingham.
He has scored two goals in 18 games for the League One strugglers.
"He's been a brilliant influence in the dressing room," Burton boss Dino Maamria said. "We need people with his experience to help us push on."

Burton Albion have signed Charlton Athletic duo Charlie Kirk and Sam Lavelle, Dagenham striker Josh Walker as well as Gassan Ahadme on loan.
Winger Kirk, 25, has featured 40 times for Charlton since moving to The Valley from Crewe in the summer of 2021.
Defender Lavelle, 26, has featured 41 times for the Addicks while Walker, 25, joins having scored 12 goals this term.
Ahadme, 22, scored five goals in eight games for Burton earlier this season before joining Ipswich in September.
Moroccan Ahadme had joined Burton on a permanent deal from Norwich in January 2022.
Since leaving for Ipswich, he has scored just one goal in eight games.
Walker joins on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee from National League side Dagenham.
Kirk, meanwhile, has three goals in 26 games for Charlton this term, including a double in the draw at Burton in November.
The transfer deadline day arrivals of Lavelle and Kirk, who had a spell in the Championship on loan with Blackpool last season, means the Brewers have signed three players from Charlton this month, with goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray arriving on a permanent deal.
