Its not a case of accepting that, the facts speak for themselves.  I think SG hoped that Maguire would continue improving after the finish to last season and Mags/Helan would provide options down the other wing.  In reality we sacrificed Antonio to get in May, that hasn't worked to well either, but hopefully we can get someone in when the loan window opens!!

Set pieces for me are a different story, I am hoping that one of the new guys has some ability in this department because Maguire's have been awful for most of the season!!  We used to be such a threat from set pieces, with a combination of good delivery and big men in the box, we need to get back to that.

Maguire's form faded from last March but scoring a number of penalties masked this.

It is amazing that a Manager thinks it is a good idea to fund the purchase of a striker by selling the player who creates the most goals.

If indeed it was the managers decision?? I think MM made the decision to sell Antonio, not sure how much input SG had in that one!!

SG wanted May but MM said that he could only have him if he raised the money to buy him by selling players. SG rang Stuart Pearce & told him that Antonio might be available. Pearce told him he was interested but they would only agree if we accepted no sell on clauses & we insisted on cash up front. It was agreed then it was put to Antonio, telling him both clubs had agreed the deal. He had to agree to support a Club statement that would suggest that he wanted to leave.

I think SG was just so keen to beat Rotherham to sign May that he would do anything to get him.

If the takeover had happened last summer, we could have had May & Antonio.

Then if true I stand corrected!! We will just have to hope that we can find one in the loan market then. Still think the quality of our midfield went up yesterday, so hopefully we play 352 and our wing backs can put in some decent balls to the front two!!

Cannot say or else some of my sources would disappear.

On Antonio, I know his other half (Debbie) so I know at least her version of what happened and a few other things. Like twice SG made him play when the medical team had said that he wasn't fit to play. One of these put him out for a further two months.

He was rushed back a few times under both SG and DJ because he was our main threat for ages, you could tell he wasn't ready just by looking from the stands. Doh

Since selling him I still think we're better than when we had to squeeze him into the starting XI no matter what but I agree that having his presence coming off the bench is something we miss and need

I've posted a very important message on the fa cup thread.

It's so important that even imre should take a look at it.

Thurnscoe, Maddix and SCO especially.

It's probably the most important posting of the entire season. Whistle Whistle

I think we miss his presence across the whole game and we are not as effective going forward as a consequence. But he was let go for a reason and at the time even though we were surprised and a bit annoyed, we were all excited about getting May in. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if we had seen that the goals were going to dry up like they have may be we wouldn't make the deal, but at the time there was a logic to it with our financial constraints.

Match thread will be up later today.
