It's what happens when you beat the champions of Asia, Africa and Wales. Yeah, we only drew against the North 'mercan runners up but they went home on more or less the same plane as Canada. Senegal went at us like Canada went at Belgium in their first game. The difference was we scored in the first half, rather than the back end of the 2nd. That 2nd goal from the Bellingham break changed the way they played and the 3rd put it to bed. Their half-time subs didn't really change the game back in their favour and eventually they went into damage limitation mode as England looked likely to score every time they counter attacked.
That said, Pickford's save in the first half helped to turn the game in our favour and scoring the first soon after finally put us in charge.
Wrap Bellingham up in the finest cotton wool you can find down the Souq please Mr. Southgate, sod the icebaths. What a player that kid is - he was at Brum as a 15-16 year old to be honest. Hard to believe he's still a teenager.

Bellingham has been sensational in this tournament, I knew he was doing well over in Germany but until now I didn’t realise just what a player he is. He has everything in his locker and could well be the next football superstar if he carries on like this at both club and International level.
Anyway that’s another week in Doha sorted and another week away from work, might see if we can do some more touristy stuff this week. See what Qatar is like away from the hustle and bustle of the Doha

Pickford's save was the one of the strangest looking saves I've seen. Everything about it was wrong. From the way he was slapping at the air to the contact he made with the ball, smacking it down as it hit his hand in a way he didn't intend. I can't quite work out whether his reflexes are lightning fast or are slowed down a tad by his own very obvious permanent anxiety. Certainly, he does things and gets into bodily positions that aren't reminiscent of any other top-class keeper. He's a genuine oddity, but internationally it seems to work. Somehow to my amazement it is working. The save was brilliant. It had a kind of alien magic to it. If you put me in charge of Everton I wouldn't know whether I wanted to rely on this strange performer to save me relegation, or whether a safer, more orthodox keeper might generate the confidence that defence obviously needs.
You can't do better than letting none in, except in your own mind you want to catch every ball, kick every kick and handle every ball perfectly. But the rest of the world just wants to see another zero.
I fear Mbappe might beat him all ends up with one, because he sometimes strikes the ball a stride earlier than anyone else. But as a betting man it isn't a bet I'd make.

Spain's bite was self-inflicted. Morocco let them pass themselves to death. It was rope-a-dope all over again.
When you give yourself a choice of no centre forward or a misfiring Morata you need the opposition simply to surrender to the drop cloth of football skills you've painted. They only found one set of surrender monkeys in the tournament.
Portugal won 6-1 and didn't even put on Rafael Leao until the closing minutes. Spain would still be in the tournament if he was Spanish. Foden and Saka would be very anxious if he were English. Make him German and he and Musiala would be heading for world domination. And the prospect of him being French and combining with Mbappe and Griezeman would be a form of terrorism. Yet he's behind Ronaldo in Portugal's pecking order.

Portugal were far more of a team without the ball magnet demanding everything goes through him. The Swiss are no mugs but they were rolled over last night long before R7 was let out of his playpen in the 2nd half.
