Thing is there aren't really any places that suit fracking in Scotland. Much more down south around somerset, NE yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

But no they would rather tear up scotlands natural beauty because their constituents wont have it.

NIMBY'ism in it's purest form, but because it's also IYBY'ism that's just fine. Fracking works great in regions where the land is flat and the underlying geology is in pretty much predictable layers. This isn't a surprise that almost of all it in the States is on the mid-west flatlands between the Rockies and the Blue Mountains where the rock strata is about as predictable as a red-neck voting for Trump, even if he doesn't know why, other than he can keep his shot-gun in his flat-bed (pick-up), his carbine behind his screen door and a pair of Glocks under his pillow.

We live on a highly fractured lump of rock on the east end of the North Atlantic. Yes it's down there, but it is 6 down, 2 across, 3 up, 25 down, a few more across, continue ad nauseum. Also, where is all the water required for this fruitless activity suddenly going to come from? Haven't they heard of hosepipe bans?

I call this constitutional disintegration - been accelerating since 2016, has exacerbated these probs: a divided governing party, jealous backstabbing Cabinets, a rapid turnover of PMs and CoEs, a general lack of inclusion and accountability in decision-making, governance diluted by interference of RW ideological think tanks. Not sure a constitution would prevent many of those things from happening, for proof of that you only have to look to what is happening this side of the pond where in 3 weeks we could be on the road to autocracy in spite of the presence of a constitution!!

At the end of the day, what we are seeing is down to the Tories and their policies, just like here its down to the Republicans and what they want to do. Checks and balances are one way to try to avoid this but that is not a certainty either. We need to lay the blame at the feet of those who caused it and not sugar coat it by blaming something like the lack of a constitution. We need to call them out on their lies and not accept them, and that applies to other same party members. We are now seeing some of that from some Tory MPs, just like we have seen it from a few Republican politicians over here, but its not enough yet.

A constitution ain't worth the paper it's written on when it's blatantly ignored - apart from the bit about the right to own an arsenal of AK-45's/47's/M16's and a couple of howitzers, you know, to defend yourself and your family, just in case the neighbours come round to borrow some butter or sugar because the all night Walmart has shut for a days holiday. May I add what we're actually witnessing is a country without a written constitution that effectively renders an unacceptable level of power to any sitting British govt rather than the people being sovereign with a proper comprehensive constitution to endorse that fact plus any corrupt govt can be seriously challenged under such a charter and the "rule of law" cannot be diluted to suit any sitting govt either. It can't be blatantly ignored and accountability is paramount!! What I'm describing is a cornerstone of true democracy and proper democratic values. There is a combined failure of governance and constitutionalism in this country, been evident for years n years - a persistent problem , identified long before Brexit or Bojo entered the scene. The symptoms are economic, social and political - simple! They can be seen in the UK's poor economic record, in its social deterioration (massive probs!!), in the rise of poverty and insecurity, in the radicalisation and polarisation of politics, the rise in corruption, and the collapse of standards of conduct in public life. IMO there is a strong link between society itself and democracy, true democracy. It becomes severely strained when society is "tested to its limits". The relative inability of the British state to act in the interests of the ordinary people, to shield and protect at this time of economic crisis, is causing real probs in millions of households up n down the country. eg one in three children are reckoned to be living in poverty. More than two million people rely on food banks. Energy prices? Not caused by the war in Ukraine - caused by the structure of the energy market as a result of privatisation and lack of investment in generation, storage and network capacity that threaten to break the economy. I could go on: sewage dumped into rivers, human rights eroded, economically isolated from our European neighbours - under a self-imposed blockade that continues to cripple businesses and punish consumers!! In effect, the country is not living up to its full potential, it is not at peace with itself!!

There should be anti-Brexit protests in London every week and there should be millions of people attending them as well and demanding a return to the EU as most citizens, even the ones who vehemently insisted it would work, now realise what an utter failure it actually is - a con!! And opinion polls endorse that fact as well with anti-opinion consistently rising as more n more people realise how the media has been manipulated to either normalise Brexit or suppress any mention of Brexit and the fact it was campaigned under a banner of deceit and deception. I still can't believe how passive people in this country have generally become re this issue and the extreme place where it is taking us as predicted by many independent economic researchers/analysts and others even within govt.

I can't hide my delight that this pretentious moron, Rees-Mogg, has been ditched from Sunak's plans. The damage to the standing of this country by this man (and others of a similar ilk!) has been colossal and his fanatical perception of a failed Brexit is jaw-dropping!! His last govt position as Energy Sec was an affront to the anti-climate warming lobby when one scrutinises his unhealthy financial links with companies that deal in mining, fossil fuel production while hypocritically professing affiliation to a net zero philosophy - COULDN'T BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH AND RIGHTLY REMOVED! However, fracking disappointingly approved before his departure - a glaring indication of Tories displaying worrying signs of climate change denial and favouring future energy policies that endorse that fact.

This really sums up where we are in this absolute "mess" called Brexit that should never happened while recent OPs show that a significant % of people (just below 60%) are now opposed to Brexit while in Scotland the anti-Brexit opposition has now risen to a whopping 72% (AND WE WISELY DIDNAE VOTE FOR IT UP HERE AND YET WE ARE STILL HAVING IT "SHOVED DOWN OUR THROATS"!!!!!).
