Holy xxxx that budget is bonkers. Convinced now they are expecting to lose the next election and are now filling their backers pockets. I've never seen such a blatant heist on the lower paid to fill the pockets of the wealthy like this in my life.

The Tories claimed that balancing the books was the reason for imposing the toughest austerity on the poorest and weakest in the UK and cutting the services we all rely on to the bone.

Then they go on to push UK borrowing up to its unsustainable highest at a time when interest rates are on the increase. And for what exactly ?
to cut taxes that hand billions of pounds to the richest in the country on a failed trickle-down policy that's been proved not to work. The markets predictably have been seriously spooked, the pound in freefall.

That policy to cut benefits from part time workers is an absolute low, even for these bastards. Punishing people who are often carers, looking after children or with health issues of their own, by making them carry the can for Labour shortages their own policies (especially brexit) have caused.

Those who voted for this shitshow, particularly in "red wall" Labour seats down south will have to face the consequences of that very soon.

It's a good description Theo - a shitshow!! This is brazen populist politics and policies in full view, the c#### are not even disguising their extreme intent any more, effectively "speaking to their base supporters" - hugely concerning!! Btw this is not a Conservative govt running this shitshow. It is doing this in name only!! Anybody who perceives that to be the case really needs to seek help.

A tax cut to benefit themselves? Well I never. You wouldn't imagine them voting in a 10% pay increase too would you? Oh, wait!!!

Oops! Right enough! An apt description (a shitshow) by Jim. My "take" re what the Tories are doing is that I believe they know their time is over as a sitting govt and they will lose the next General Election. Hence Truss et al are following a "retreat and burn" strategy and they are gonna "rip off" the public purse "big time" and will feed eyewatering amounts of money to their wealthy backers and elites who are all part of this conspiracy. Listen closely to the narrative following that disgraceful mini budget - it is being brazenly presented with this self-righteous claptrap, cheap rhetoric and innuendo that is so typical of this lot ever since the Brexit disaster was foisted on us all these years ago. It is effectively a corrupt Johnson govt replaced by an even more corrupt Tory govt that I believe is still in collusion with that sinister ERG group that is definitely "pulling the strings", a group of people who have played a big part in systematically destroying the Conservative Party as well as wrecking the future economic and societal prospects of the country.
Btw it's not a new approach for a new era, IMO it is the Tory "swan song" - the rich and far too powerful sweeping up whatever is left before bowing out the door. I'm older now and how often have people in my age group seen this scenario? It started a long time ago with post-war privatisation of industries that had been nationalised because of the war; then a few state monopolies, such as the railways and airlines, before moving on to various ways of taxing middle-earners, then returning to initially introduce competition, then privatise more state assets such as transport, energy providers, telecomms and postal servs. With little left to sell, they then began to privatise service and equipment provision in defence, health etc. When it looked like there was nothing left to extract from the present generation, they (Blair and Labour this time!!!) brought in PPP to indebt future generations. The bankers' greed collapsed the economy in 2008, to be paid off in decades of austerity in just about the time they should have been completing their jail terms to give them eye-watering bonuses Thumb down Meanwhile, the economy has still not even started to recover from the COVID fiasco, where public funds were "poured like water" into the grasping hands of anyone able to get on the govt's preference lists. We have seen it all before, but never in such an open and blatant manner. I still have hopes that my kids and grandkids will live in a better world and society than this one. Of course, being resident in Scotland, there is clearly a natural "exit door" available to the Scottish people that will make it happen - a better country, a fairer society and all power and decision-making in our own hands as well as the interests of our people paramount in the new direction where we wanna go.

I don't think we need pay too much attention to any more talk about scotland being debt ridden and needing the unions "strong shoulders". Why would an independent scotland need to pay this shite off ?

The tories have literally bet the farm on tax cuts for a tiny fraction of the population, risking the entire economy into the bargain. Scorched earth stuff.

As previously mentioned the economic experiment endorsed in "britannia unchanged" has begun. That book outlines the plan clearly - Do a ground zero job on the economy then rebuild a working britain without any rules or regulations. Its scorched earth stuff, but it's what they and their backers want.

KamaKwasi, the cheese queen, and Raab C Brexit are all co-authors of said book.
