The Nations League: Scotland v ROI, Sat 24 Sept

The prep for this home match really must be a case of same again, same team if poss Stevie!! The manager has suddenly discovered what looks like a very well balanced Scotland team that can "shift through the gears" to get at their opponents. Tierney is definitely the "kingpin" in this side and I reckon he could play any left sided position and do it exceptionally well. IMO we still have an issue with scoring goals with ease. However, that may be changing as this team keeps evolving and there are so many members of Clarke's player squad who are of a fairly decent standard. We top our group now. Lets stay there eh! C'mon Scotland!

FT 2-1 Scotland Thumb up Down 0-1 to an early ROI goal, sloppy defending btw. Didn't play that well compared to the last game v Ukraine, but the boys "kept the heid" and believed they could still win this game!! What a decision by Hendry to push on to their defence from his own defensive role and score that all important equalising goal with a cracking header - broke up their defensive comfort by adding his striking presence and it paid off!! Thumb up Ryan Christie immense in the second half and scoring that decisive PK. We never quite "hit the heights" that this team can attain, but there are different ways to win a footie match and Scotland did just that. Next stop Ukraine on Tuesday night and it looks like the team formation has to be changed - McTominay suspended, Tierney injured and Hickey also injured. However, there are other willing squad players who are capable and willing to do a job in Krakow.

Didn't play as well 1st half, got to give credit to ROI who played well on the break and defended well. They look like they have some handy young players and our midfield didn't really get going.

2nd half we were much stronger, played more on the front foot with a bit more pace and we got our reward. Thought Hickey was absolutely superb again, he's a much better player than Patterson on that evidence. Hopefully him and Tierney are OK for Krakow.

I think Stevie made a mistake not starting Adams though, thought he would have been more of a threat to those irish CBs than Dykes.
