LAST TIME OUT

FORM GUIDE

PNE 9 BURNLEY 12

MANAGER

Vincent Kompany

Managerial career
Anderlecht
On 17 August 2020, it was announced that Kompany would be the head coach at Anderlecht for the next four seasons, after retiring from professional football on the same day.[63] He made his debut six days later in a 1–1 home draw with Mouscron, conceding the equaliser in added time.[64] In the Belgian Cup, the team reached the semi-finals before a 2–1 elimination by Genk in March.[65] The league campaign ended with qualification for the play-offs, in which they came fourth and made the UEFA Europa Conference League.[66]

In August 2021, Kompany's Violets were eliminated from the Conference League qualifiers 5–4 on aggregate by Dutch club Vitesse.[67] The team did one round better in the cup than before, losing the final on penalties to Gent on 18 April,[68] and came third in the league.[69]

Burnley
On 14 June 2022, Kompany was appointed manager of EFL Championship club Burnley on a deal of undisclosed length, following the club's relegation from the Premier League. He became the club's first manager from outside the UK and Ireland and the first Belgian to manage in English Football.[70] On his debut on 29 July, he won 1–0 at Huddersfield Town with a goal by debutant Ian Maatsen.[71]

Burney Culture

Chumbawamba (/ˌtʃʌmbəˈwɒmbə/) were a British rock band formed in 1982 and disbanded in 2012. They are best known for their 1997 single "Tubthumping", which was nominated for Best British Single at the 1998 Brit Awards. Other singles include "Amnesia", "Enough Is Enough" (with MC Fusion), "Timebomb", "Top of the World (Olé, Olé, Olé)", and "Add Me". The band drew on genres such as punk rock, pop, and folk. Their anarcho-communist political leanings led them to have an irreverent attitude toward authority, and to espouse a variety of political and social causes including animal rights and pacifism (early in their career) and later regarding class struggle, Marxism, feminism, gay liberation, pop culture, and anti-fascism.

In July 2012, Chumbawamba announced they were splitting up after 30 years.[1] The band was joined by former members and collaborators for three final shows between 31 October and 3 November 2012, one of which was filmed and released as a live

In The Dressing Room

Ryan Lowe has almost a fully-fit squad to choose from on Tuesday evening, with Ben Woodburn the only absentee. The former Liverpool man is expected to be available for the Sunderland match at the beginning of October.

Aside from Ben, the manager is hopeful of being able to choose from the rest of his squad, with Andrew Hughes, Bambo Diaby and Sean Maguire all now recovered from their respective injuries.

Robbie Brady, who has started each Championship match so far this season, could come up against his former side, who he made 87 appearances for.

A Look At Our Visitors

It’s been all change at Turf Moor over the past few months, with former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany taking over as manager, while 16 players have come through the door.

It’s not just personnel which has altered, though. Kompany has got his Clarets playing his own possession-based style of football, and they have adapted to that well, taking 13 points from their opening eight matches.

A familiar name tops Burnley’s scoring charts so far this season, with former PNE midfielder Josh Brownhill having scored four goals already – bettering his combined total from the past two-and-a-half seasons.

Going Head To Head

Games played: 131
PNE wins: 53
Draws: 26
Burnley wins: 52
Last victory: Burnley 0-2 PNE, 5th December 2015

One To Watch

One of the later additions to the squad at Turf Moor, attacker Nathan Tella has wasted no time settling in to life in Lancashire.

The 23-year-old joined the club on a season-long loan from Southampton in August, and the deal looked like a real coup at the time, and his performances since have done nothing to suggest otherwise.

A diminutive winger with plenty of pace, Tella has made six league appearances for Burnley with a return of three goals – two of those coming in a dramatic 3-3 draw in another derby against Blackpool.

Match Officials

Experienced official Peter Bankes will be the man in the middle on Tuesday night.

Premier League referee Bankes has taken charge of four top flight matches so far this season, as well as two Europa Conference League fixtures.

He last refereed a North End game in the 2020/21 campaign, when PNE came out 1-0 winners away to Swansea City

MACS VIEW

Probably our toughest game of the season against a side who will be there or there abouts, they will give you chances to score against them think the keeper is a bit suspect but going forward they are good and they have Jay Rod always scores against us and a danger meanwhile we have the possibility of the return of the non scoring Irishman
Seems fitting that two of the oldest football league teams should be the first league game to be seen live on TV in the reign of the new King.
The National Anthem before the game could be something else

Probably played a side who will be there or there abouts at the end of the season, therefore will take the point, in fairness they should probably have been ahead by half time. Burnley pass the ball about excellently something that we should occasionally try, had nippy wingers and generally looked good on the ball, possibly mainly try to work the perfect goal but looked more than decent last night.
Credit to both sides fans for the impecable minutes silence before Russell Watson blasted out God Save the King.
Early goal for the visitors probably wasn't unexpected, easy header from Harwood-Bellis from the corner. Benson caused us plenty of problems down the right flank, sorry Brady is wasted as a wing back and on the other side Tella was a danger although Potts did well against him.
It took an age for the restart due to the inability of the stewards to pick up the flares, however within four minutes of the actual restart, we were level.
From a corner a bit of head tennis in the box , slight bit of fortune the keeper slips and Storey's header crosses the line by about two inches, technically we still have not hit the back of the net at home but will take it.
Roberts went close from a cross by Benson, a free kick was difflected wide as Burnley posed danger everytime they attacked. Mr Bankes gave them everything especially as they went down with ease. We manged to survive until half time, one substitution the unlucky McCann was substituted, didn't really help us in the first half when he picked up a very early booking.
Second period Burnley dominated with the ball but in truth didn't really look like scoring, they got into some good position but defensively we were excellent especially when Hughes and Fernandez arrived.
Fernandez gave us an option down the left hand side and there was a slight possibility we might have won this but some of our decision making around the area was poor. Long range shot by Browne and a chested attempt at goal again by Browne were the closest we got.
Personal view Fernandez has to start simple as that.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"It's a derby. I don't think we suffered too much, I think we played well. In the first half I think we did enough to win the game. In the second at times we just weren't patient enough.

"Anything can happen, in the end it's a draw, we've got to move on and the performance was encouraging. On another day, you win this game.

"We did everything we needed to do apart from finishing the game in the first half. We move on and we go again on Saturday."
