What an absolute thriller that was!

First goal conceded by England tonight in the competition, but these women never gave up. Forced a late equaliser then won it with a classic strike from Georgia Stanway in extra time. An absolute belter!

A good watch but the equalising goal was a clear foul on the Spain CB if truth be told - look at the arms on the shoulders (holding down an opponent, fundamental stuff at this level of footie!!) of the Spanish girl before the ball moved diagonally for an easy goal. That was a huge decision and there were quite a few other highly questionable ones from this female referee, one of them another astounding "home decision" when Greenwood stooped down to head the ball when a Spanish forward flicked the ball over her to a team mate - foul given, but never a foul (Greenwood's prob if stooping so low to head the ball!!!), a ridiculous decision as well as Greenwood sadly feigning injury to her head - she wasn't even touched!! This was a very poor display of refereeing IMO, some big decisions that were wrong. Even the timing of the final whistle was premature - a joke!!

I thought they played really well in patches. This match was just what they needed after a relatively easy group, they didn't have it all their way and they didn't have the possession they usually have. Well deserved win in the end, for all their passing Spain were relatively inept in front of goal. Probably Sweden in the next round, another tough game for sure.

Toone's goal was absolute class, much better than Russo's backheel. If only the men had as much composure and touch. The German equaliser was pretty good too. England's winner was a bit scrappy but it still counts as much as the brilliant ones. Well done to England's women.
