The Advert Algorithm

I know, I know - there's a better place for a moan than this but I can't find it so I'm parking it on our pages.

I get the need for the ads (Stairs et al Thumb up ), it pays for the site, no problem with that, I wouldn't have the privilege for this moan if it wasn't there.

The problem - I bought something with a gift card off American Golf's website, weeks ago, many weeks ago (2 months!!!!) and certainly not through this site.

All I get since is American Golf adverts every time I go anywhere near the site. Even worse, for stuff they don't actually have in stock anymore. I've checked. No it's not always American Golf, it can be places and companies I've never heard of for services I'll never use, I can just delete that - but wtf is this fixation with American Golf? Does it ever go away?

I've bought stuff of Amazon, eBay, B&Q, Screwfix, Toolstation, Matalan, Aldi, Park Timber (ok no reason most of you would buy from them, a local fence supplier), amongst others. Do I see ads for them? No. Not that I'm asking for them either but, as they used to say in bingo - "gi' the bag a shake".

Is it me, or does anyone else get these pain in the arse "repeated for ever ad's" too? Or does it just track anything related to sport?

PS - I've paid for a few rounds of golf on line too but I don't see ads linked to those and yes I do know what cookies are all about too - I've deleted enough over the years.

Facebook is the worst for "listening". Sometimes you only have to mention something, not search for it, and it will appear as an advert within the next five minutes.

The most ridiculous one I've had was when we went to see a talk by Julian Dutton at the Barnsley Lamproom Theatre. He was doing the talk as the actor John le Mesurier, it was very good. Anyway, he was talking about the small part he had in Kind Hearts and Coronets. That was in the first half of the show.

I looked at my phone at the interval and adverts to buy Kind Hearts and Coronets on DVD were there.

Coincidence? Spooky? Big Brother watching us? Blush

The best one though was the Tory MP who had been looking up something on the Labour Party website and the next day asked in the House of Commons if it was ethical for Labour to have adverts for Russian prostitutes on it's website. Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh Laugh Blush Blush Blush Doh Doh Doh

There's more than that to do with why I stay off Faceache but it's a good reason for a start.

Worrying then that I keep getting adverts for both Russian and Ukrainian single women on this site. Blush Laugh

The big bugbear I have about FB is the "suggested for you" posts that pop up all over the place. Get them off my page, you cretins, I'm not interested and never will be.

I've not been back to Canada for the best part of 3 years, and whilst I've been to "Blackpool with a waterfall and no beach" a few times .... don't think it's my fault.

In other news

why might that be?

Love that description of Niagara!! While the falls are spectacular the Canadian side is as tacky as anything I've seen and the US side is about as poor an area that New York State can throw at you!!!

Now the town of Niagara on the Lake just north of the falls is a lovely town and does have a beach!!

Yes it does SCO, I completely agree with that and some equally lovely restaurants and bars. Thumb up

Now if someone can tell me why the Advert Algorithm I originally moaned about has suddenly changed to more or less completely random adverts, which it should have been in the first place, I'd love to be informed. (Or in some cases no adverts).
