Preston North End are pleased to confirm Aaron Bennett has signed a one-year professional contract with the club.

The midfielder, who has just completed the second year of his scholarship, had a one-year extension triggered on his existing deal in April, while also being offered professional terms.

That contract has now been agreed and signed by 18-year-old Bennett, keeping him at PNE until at least the summer of 2023, and the club have an option to extend this by a further year.

Preston North End are pleased to confirm Mikey O’Neill has signed a professional contract with the club which runs until the summer of 2024.

The 17-year-old saw his existing deal extended by a year in April, but has now agreed professional terms at Deepdale which will keep him at the club for at least two more years, while PNE also have the option to extend by a further year.

Mikey made his senior debut for PNE in last month’s home fixture against Queens Park Rangers and has since gone on to make two further appearances for the first team.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Mikey said: “I’m delighted to finally get it done and sign for the club.

“I’m really happy to get the deal sorted and now I can focus on making my way into the first team, cementing my place around the squad and hopefully making more appearances.

“I can’t wait for July to come now so I can get back to playing, impressing the manager and hopefully I can start playing as soon as possible.”

The Liverpool-born attacker has played a key role in the success of the U19s this season, scoring 11 goals as they lifted both the Youth Alliance League and Cup trophies.

His performances with Nick Harrison’s side, and in the Central League, caught the eye of manager Ryan Lowe, who brought him to Euxton to train with the first team, and Mikey has now had a taste of three Championship fixtures.

Ryan Lowe said: “We’re delighted that Mikey’s signed a professional contract. I’ve said before that he’s someone who impressed me the minute I came through the door in terms of his attitude and his performances.

“We felt it was only right that he was given the opportunity to come up to the first team and he’s been different class in training and when we’ve been able to get him some minutes on the pitch.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him going forward, in pre-season especially, as I think he’s got a great chance of going on to make a good career for himself, and hopefully that’s here at Preston North End.”

Preston North End are pleased to confirm Bambo Diaby has signed a two-year deal with the club.

The Senegalese defender spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign at Deepdale, after signing a short-term contract with PNE in January.

Diaby went on to play seven times in the Championship, earning his full debut in the home victory over AFC Bournemouth in February, and he will now stay with the Lilywhites until at least the summer of 2024.

Bambo said: “Of course I wanted to stay here. I said this when the manager was talking to me, he wanted me here and all the fans have supported me since the first day so it was easy to make the decision to stay here because we want to do something big.

“I like to work with him [Ryan Lowe]. I tell him I like to work with him because I have so much passion, and he knows a lot about football and I want to learn with him.

“He needs to show me a lot of things and for this I want to stay here because I know I can become a better player with him.

“I believe in this team, I believe in the manager, I believe in myself of course. I think if everyone can do what we need to do and everyone can do a good job, we can make something good and have a good season.”

The 24-year-old, who moved to Spain as a young child, made his professional debut for Catalonian side Cornella in 2016, before going on to play in Italy and Belgium.

His first experience of English football followed in 2019, making 22 appearances for Barnsley, and the central defender returned to Oakwell with PNE in the penultimate game of the 2021/22 campaign.

Manager Ryan Lowe added: “Bambo’s been a credit to himself and to us ever since he came through the door, so we were keen for him to stay with us.

“His attitude’s been absolutely spot on, and we feel there’s a bit of work that can be done with Bambo as well, he’s one that we can teach and get better.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing Bambo in a Preston North End shirt again next season.”

Preston North End are delighted to confirm goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has joined the club from Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal, meaning he will stay at Deepdale until at least 2025.

Former England U21 international Woodman has experience playing for the Magpies in the Premier League, while he’s also enjoyed two full seasons in the Championship with Swansea City.

Speaking after joining PNE, Freddie said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s been a while trying to get this over the line, but I’m delighted to be here and I feel very honoured to be joining such a fantastic football club and a football club that’s going in the right direction.

“I spoke to the manager, not that he had to sell the football club to me, but the way that he works, he’s very passionate and he spoke very highly of the club.

“Obviously I knew Marshy [Mike Marsh] coming here. He played a big part in me picking Preston over other clubs that I had offers from.

“But also myself, I’ve played against Preston and I’ve never had an easy day at Deepdale, and I want to come here and give these fans something that they deserve.”

Freddie ‘Honoured’ To Join PNE

The goalkeeper started the opening four fixtures of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign for Newcastle United, and went on to spend the second half of the season with AFC Bournemouth who gained promotion.

Previous to that, the former Crystal Palace man spent two years on loan with Swansea City, working under PNE first team coach Mike Marsh and playing a key part in the Swans reaching the Play-Off final during the 2020/21 campaign.

Woodman is also well decorated at international youth level, having won both the U17 European Championship and the U20 World Cup.

Manager Ryan Lowe added: “We were aware Freddie wanted a new challenge and I’m really pleased we’ve got it done.

"We've beaten off some competition for Freddie as he's seen what we're trying to build here at Preston North End.

“We feel he’s going to be one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

“His attributes are playing out from the back and his goal saving of course, so he’ll be a top player for us and we’re really excited to start working with him.

“Marshy’s [Mike Marsh] worked with him before with England and with Swansea for two seasons, so when he’s telling you to sign him it becomes a no brainer.”

David Cornell Signs For PNE

@pnefc

Preston North End are delighted to confirm the arrival of goalkeeper David Cornell on a two-year deal, which will officially begin on 1st July.

The 31-year-old arrives at Deepdale after making 30 appearances in the Championship for Peterborough United during the 2021/22 campaign.

He becomes the second goalkeeper in the last seven days to sign for PNE, following Freddie Woodman's move from Newcastle United.

Speaking after signing, Dai said: “I’m really excited to be here and have the opportunity to pull this shirt on and fingers crossed it’s a successful time.

“I spoke to the manager a few weeks ago and the feeling he gave me about the club and the direction he wanted to go in, it was a no brainer really after we spoke.

“Even looking in from the outside, it looks a great place to be and I’m looking forward to being here.”

Cornell started his career with Swansea City, making his professional debut for the Welsh side in 2009, before moving on permanently to Oldham Athletic in 2015.

His most successful time came with Northampton Town between 2016 and 2020, having made 108 appearances for the Cobblers and helping them achieve promotion to League One during the 2019/20 campaign.

The former Wales youth international then joined Ipswich Town before his move to Peterborough, and he will now look to challenge Woodman at North End.

Manager Ryan Lowe added: “When you get someone of Freddie Woodman’s quality, you’re looking for that little bit more experience in Dai.

“He’s been around the block in all different divisions. He’s a fantastic lad, he knows his position and knows what he’s got to do.

“He’s got to push Freddie all the way, and when I met Dai he was perfect for that.

“All he wanted to do was come to a football club where he can challenge and keep competing, and that’s what I want.

“First and foremost he’s a great kid, been around the block and played at different levels, and he’s one we’re really pleased to get over the line.”

Harry Nevin has officially put pen to paper on a one-year professional deal at Preston North End, with the club having the option of a further year.

As previously confirmed, the central defender’s scholarship which was signed in 2020 included professional terms set to follow at the end of his two years as a scholar.

That spell ended at the conclusion of the 2021/22 campaign, when the Republic of Ireland youth international captained the U19s to a league and cup double
