After signing a new deal at Preston North End, Andrew Hughes said he believes he and his team-mates can achieve success during his time at Deepdale.
The defender has penned a new contract until 2024, and with the recent appointment of manager Ryan Lowe coupled with the quality in the squad, Hughesy is confident the club can push towards the top end of the Championship table. Speaking to iFollow after signing the new deal, he said: “I’m over the moon. I’m delighted to get it done, in the end it’s been an easy decision. “I feel really settled here. I love the place, I love the club, I love everything about it so it was my main priority to stay at Preston. “There was not once where I ever really wanted to leave, it was just making sure things were right for myself and the club, and I’m grateful that we’ve managed to get it done.” PNE currently sit 14th in the Championship table and following back-to-back wins there is a positive mood in the camp right now. Hughesy puts a lot of that down to the way the new manager has come into the building and instilled confidence into the group. He said: “I think the gaffer is trying to get the belief back in amongst the squad that we are good enough to compete at the top end of the table and I think he’s doing that. “We’re not far off, string a few wins together and you’ll find yourselves up there so I think that’s the aim now. “You look at the teams that are always up there and they’re always believing that they’re going to be in and around it, so we’ve got to put ourselves in that bracket because we’ve got the players to do it. It’s just we’ve got to go and do it.” Since his arrival three and a half years ago, Hughes has racked up 122 appearances in a North End shirt, and he picked out a few memorable moments during that time. “There’s a bittersweet one,” he admitted. “The first time I ended up being captain against Wycombe, although we did lose the game, that was a really proud moment for myself. “I’ll never forget the day that I did sign for this club. I’ve had some great times and there’s been some down times as well, but hopefully going forward now there’s a lot more ups than there is downs.” One of the more recent good days was Monday's victory away to Stoke City, where Hughesy ended up being the match-winner, with his header completing the turnaround at the bet365 Stadium. "I really enjoyed it," he smiled. "It’s not often I get to score so I felt like I’ve got to make the most of that one, but I think I’m more happy with the three points to be honest. "It couldn’t have come at a better time. Going without a game for a long time and then putting in that performance at Stoke, I thought we played really well as a team."

Bauer new deal
Preston North End are delighted to confirm Patrick Bauer has signed a new contract at the club until at least 2024. The German defender’s current deal was due to expire in the summer, but he will now stay on at Deepdale for at least the next two and a half years. Since his arrival in June 2019, the 29-year-old has made 72 appearances for PNE, and he scored his seventh goal for the club in the weekend’s draw against Birmingham City. Speaking after signing his new contract, Patrick said: “I’m really relieved to get it done. Negotiations have been going on for quite a while so I’m really glad to finally put pen to paper and be here at least for the next two and a half years. “First of all, me and my family felt really comfortable here in the area. We love the club and I love the boys in the changing room. “We’ve got a really good changing room and a really good squad, and I feel like we can be really successful in the future. Hopefully we can show that in the next [few] years.” The former German U20 international has played every minute of football since Ryan Lowe was appointed, and the manager was delighted to see another one of his players sign on, following Andrew Hughes’ new deal a couple of weeks ago. Ryan said: “I’m really pleased. The negotiations have been going on for a while with Patrick before I came here, so I’m pleased he’s committed his future to Preston North End.” He added: “He’s a leader, not a vocal one, he’s a silent type of leader. He’s a great footballer, a good defender, along with Hughesy, and all the lads who are playing. “Obviously these lads with contracts expiring, we want to make sure we look after these type of players to [make sure they] stay with us because we feel they’re valuable to us.”

Preston North End are delighted to confirm striker Cameron Archer has joined the club on loan from Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old, who has featured three times in the Premier League for Villa this term, will stay at PNE until the end of the current campaign. Cameron has enjoyed a breakthrough season at his boyhood club, scoring regularly in all competitions and he has recently put pen to paper on a new deal at Villa Park until 2025. Speaking after joining PNE, Cameron said: “I’m excited, I’m ready for the challenge and can’t wait to get started. “It’s been a good journey so far and I’ve had the opportunity to go out on loan now to express myself. “[My aim is to] just hopefully get some experience, some games under my belt and hopefully score some goals.” The young striker is very highly rated by Villa boss Steven Gerrard, having been kept at the club until now to contend with the likes of Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins up top. As well as being involved in Premier League and Carabao Cup matchday squads, the Walsall-born man has also been in top form in the EFL Trophy, scoring six goals in just four appearances. On the latest addition, manager Ryan Lowe added: “We’re absolutely delighted. I’ve been monitoring Cameron Archer for a while now. “He’s a natural goalscorer who I’m really excited to work with and hopefully he’ll score some goals for us. “There were several clubs after him chasing his signature but we’re the privileged ones to be able to take him. “His objective will be to play for the Aston Villa first team in the future and we want to help him do that, but his objective now until the end of the season will be to help Preston North End finish as high up the table as possible.” Cameron will take the No.21 shirt and will go straight in to contention to feature on Wednesday evening as PNE take on West Brom at The Hawthorns.
